Bush promises 'principled leadership' at home, abroad
By William M. Welch, USA TODAY
NEW YORK — President Bush claimed his nomination for a second term Thursday, saying he offers "steady, consistent, principled leadership" and promising to transform the nation's tax, health-care and pension systems while displaying strength abroad.

Speaking on the fourth and final night of the Republican National Convention, Bush sketched out a domestic agenda that would remake the nation's "most fundamental systems" in keeping with changes that have made workers and families more mobile. He also outlined a foreign policy based around "the transformational power of liberty." (Related: Text of Bush's speech| Video)

"The wisest use of American strength is to advance freedom," he said. "As freedom advances heart by heart, and nation by nation, America will be more secure and the world more peaceful."

"We will build a safer world and a more hopeful America, and nothing will hold us back," Bush said.<snip>

1. Leadership My Arse
I've posted this before, but my response is:

Leadership doesn't prevent all the votes from being counted
Leadership doesn't sit for 7 minutes after being told the Country is under attack
Leadership doesn't use a national tragedy for political gain
Leadership doesn't reduce taxes on the wealthy in times of war
Leadership doesn't deceive a country into supporting a war against a country that isn't an imminent threat
Leadership doesn't need a script when talking to the public
Leadership doesn't ignore the advice of professionals.
Leadership doesn't take offense at being criticized
Leadership doesn't view things as all black and white, or good versus evil
Leadership doesn't depend exclusively on faith, but on facts and judgment as well.
Leadership doesn't minimally plan for winning the peace.
Leadership doesn't declare "Mission Accomplished" prematurely
Leadership doesn't allow a decorated veteran be smeared by others for political gain
Leadership doesn't distort the votes of another for political gain
Leadership doesn't stick stubbornly to one way of thinking when the facts have changed
