Kerry took command at the MN State Fair - Strib's C.J.
A firm hand on the reins

Sen. John Kerry promptly defused a potentially dangerous situation Thursday at the State Fair. It happened near the barns, as Kerry arrived with his national media horde, enlarged by the locals and fairgawkers. All of these outsiders, especially photographers with their noisy flashing cameras, created an unsettling environment, especially for one horse that spooked while it was being moved. Rather than ignoring the commotion created by his presence, the presidential candidate stepped forward, holding his hands high. "Shh. Everybody quiet. Stay back," he said to the crowd. "Ma'am? You need to get through here." The handler calmed her skittish horse and led it away. It was an impressive display for some jaded souls, amazed by how Kerry took command of the situation.

"promptly defusing a potentially dangerous situation"

Can't have this on the cable channels - people might realize Kerry really CAN do things, unlike shrub...

7. Another article on the state fair visit
Kerry causes stir at State Fair
Much glad-handing on unscheduled visit

During his hour-long visit, Kerry shook hundreds of hands, held quite a few babies, patted a few cows and, yes, ate a corn dog.

(snip)

Just before Kerry reached his final Fair destination — the cattle barn — he worked to quiet his loudly chanting supporters as a woman began losing control of the horse she was leading.

Kerry held up his hands to keep people back, saying, "Hold on. Stay quiet. Wait." Kerry told the woman to go ahead, and she steered her horse around the crowd and across the street into the horse barn.
