LTTE: Bush=FDR? excellent talking point
This showed up in today's Dallas Morning News, a great way to put things into perspective for fence sitters.

" It has now been three years since the al-Qaeda attack on the World Trade Center. On 9-11, the U.S. was the strongest nation in the world. Three years later our military is strung out all over the world without an ally of any military significance, except the United Kingdom. We are hung up in a no-win guerrilla war in Iraq, and terrorist leaders are free to attack anywhere in the world unrestrained as evidenced by Beslan.

Three years after the Japanese attack against a weak U.S.A. at Pearl Harbor, American armed forces had retaken the Philippines, stopped the enemy in Burma, knocked Italy out of the war, made the strongest amphibious landing in history on Fortress Europa and had forged the strongest allied war effort in world history.

Dubya is no FDR.

Edward W. Samuell Jr., Dallas "

3. Speaking of FDR,
just rambling thoughts

For those who want to "postpone" the elections because we are now at war, we bring the examples of the elections of 1864 and of 1944.

We now know, however, that by then Roosevelt was very ill. Indeed, he died several months after his fourth inauguration. Was the fact that he was very ill during the Yalta Conference, helped ceding control of Eastern Europe to the Soviet Union?

I don't know the answer. I don't even know who ran against him in 1944 but these questions often rise, not necessarily from RWers.

5. Bush == Hoover
In many ways, Bush reminds me of Hoover. His entire campaign can be summed up as something like "Things will get better. Really!"

Whoever eventually mops up Bush's mess, maybe we can compare *them* to FDR.
