Kerry says he will not bring back the draft but Bush might

Finally it's out in the spotlight

Kerry: Draft Likely to Return Under Bush

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites), citing the war in Iraq (news - web sites) and other trouble spots in the world, raised the possibility Wednesday that a military draft could be reinstated if voters re-elect President Bush (news - web sites).

Kerry said he would not bring back the draft and questioned how fairly it was administered in the past.

Answering a question about the draft that had been posed at a forum with voters, Kerry said: "If George Bush (news - web sites) were to be re-elected, given the way he has gone about this war and given his avoidance of responsibility in North Korea (news - web sites) and Iran and other places, is it possible? I can't tell you."

1. Here's the Republican counter-argument to that..

It was a democrat, Chuck Hagel, who wrote the most recent draft bill.

What do you say to that? I understand Hagel's reasons for writing it, but..

5. I'm just messin with ya actually I don't remember the name of that guy
But I believe he said specifically that he wrote the bill in order to force politicians who want to starts wars that they have to send their children first. The bill I believe called for the richest to have send their children first, it wasn't necessarily meant to be taken seriously.

In any case he set up that bill not to seriously start a draft of all kids out there, it was to show that if there was a draft for the children of the rich maybe we wouldn't be so quick to want to go to war.

6. Ok..

Well, I understand and accept the explanation. I'm not sure right-wingers would buy it, or if that would stop their arguments.
