Despite Bush Flip-Flops, Kerry Gets Label

"By John F. Harris
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, September 23, 2004; Page A01

One of this year's candidates for president, to hear his opposition tell it, has a long history of policy reversals and rhetorical about-faces -- a zigzag trail that proves his willingness to massage positions and even switch sides when politically convenient.

The flip-flopper, Democrats say, is President Bush. Over the past four years, he abandoned positions on issues such as how to regulate air pollution or whether states should be allowed to sanction same-sex marriage. He changed his mind about the merits of creating the Homeland Security Department, and made a major exception to his stance on free trade by agreeing to tariffs on steel. After resisting, the president yielded to pressure in supporting an independent commission to study policy failures preceding the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Bush did the same with questions about whether he would allow his national security adviser to testify, or whether he would answer commissioners' questions for only an hour, or for as long they needed."

1. Mr Rove's psyops
This is classical psychological warfare and brainwashing technique.

They ALWAYS accuse their opponent of what **THEY** do or intend to do. This creates psychological dissonance among the sheeple, who, being decent folk in the main, logically assume that if they repudiate it in their opponent, they must be opposed to it, and would never do it themselves.

Bush is a cowardly deserter -- therefore Kerry had to have his military service digraced.

Bush is a liar and hides his very unpopular policies behind outrageous lies -- therefore Al Gore had to be characterized as a serial liar.

Bush is a fucking idiot with absolutely no comprehension of world affairs -- so Kerry has to be ridiculed as someone who doesn't know what he is doing.

Bush is about NOTHING but dirty tricks -- therefore Kerry must be accused of filthy tactics.

Back in the US, back in the US, back in the USSR! This is how people have to learn how to "read" the news -- the facts are there, but are disguised in code words. Learn the code, and you have the facts. Everyone in Soviet Russia knew that Pravda was pure BS, and that their leaders lied to them about everything, but they knew how to decode what was said. People in Nazi Germany *knew* they were being told lies by their leaders about how the war was going, so they relied on radio broadcasts from England. Intelligence analysts in England used to monitor Nazi radio broadcasts, and be able to decode what was really happening based on the BS the Nazis broadcast, which always lied about what was going on.

Time for us all to bone up on our Cold War skills -- we have become the Cultural Revolution. Ironic that the Republicans decried the Communists all those years, only to institute practices in our own country. Ironic that they decry Islamic fundamentalism, when Christian and Jewish fundamentalism are on the rise here. Ironic that they say they are trying to establish a liberal tolerant secular democracy in Iraq, when they are building an intolerant, Bible-based, irrational theocracy in America.
