And in the Senate, too, for that matter. He's probably got them intimidated. For the time being, he's got a lot of weight to throw around and BOY does he know it. Because his party has the numbers at the moment, he's very powerful, and worse, it's power UNCHECKED. There is not enough of a public outcry for government accountability, probably because the gross violations of our civil rights affect relatively few people. Nobody cares, because it hasn't hit them yet. And funny enough, that's one of the biggest things they kept yammering about in prime time during the republi-CONvention. Government accountability, which, along with the fabled and much-vaunted freedom, is certainly worth dying or getting permanently maimed in Iraq, don'tcha know?
The Dems who cower before him are probably hoping (against hope) that if they make reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaal nice-nice with His Lordship, he'll throw them a few crumbs. Since they are still in the minority, they're stuck. It's just wretched. And as long as he's on his high horse, he can pretty much toy with them as he chooses. Which is why we need to support not just Kerry BUT ALSO other Dems in congressional (and senate) races. One MOST worthy example: Richard Morrison who's running against delay in his home district -
http://morrisonfor22.com/index.phpKerry needs to get into the White House. But he ALSO needs a Congress he can work with, because there'll be SUCH a huge mess to clean up. bush's lame-duck months are plenty of time to do a LOT more damage and in this case it'd be done with relish because it would be done for spite. bush is liable to add a whole new luster to the term "Sore Loserman." So Kerry will need some HELPFUL people in Congress.
And, yes, Welcome to DU!
