Bush crony is under investigation
09/24/2004 11:30
House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, a Bush type he-boy "All American", is being considered for investigation in the laundering $190,000 in illegal corporate contributions through the Republican National Committee for use in Texas legislative races.

The same $190,000 in political contributions that led to indictments of the Texas congressman's aides on similar charges.

2. Oh it gets worse
My congressman, Alan Mollahan, a democrat from the WV 1st district, stood up and said that Delay was o.k. He's getting a strongly worded letter from me.

9. That's the problem with an ongoing republi-CON majority in the House.
And in the Senate, too, for that matter. He's probably got them intimidated. For the time being, he's got a lot of weight to throw around and BOY does he know it. Because his party has the numbers at the moment, he's very powerful, and worse, it's power UNCHECKED. There is not enough of a public outcry for government accountability, probably because the gross violations of our civil rights affect relatively few people. Nobody cares, because it hasn't hit them yet. And funny enough, that's one of the biggest things they kept yammering about in prime time during the republi-CONvention. Government accountability, which, along with the fabled and much-vaunted freedom, is certainly worth dying or getting permanently maimed in Iraq, don'tcha know?

The Dems who cower before him are probably hoping (against hope) that if they make reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaal nice-nice with His Lordship, he'll throw them a few crumbs. Since they are still in the minority, they're stuck. It's just wretched. And as long as he's on his high horse, he can pretty much toy with them as he chooses. Which is why we need to support not just Kerry BUT ALSO other Dems in congressional (and senate) races. One MOST worthy example: Richard Morrison who's running against delay in his home district -

http://morrisonfor22.com/index.php

Kerry needs to get into the White House. But he ALSO needs a Congress he can work with, because there'll be SUCH a huge mess to clean up. bush's lame-duck months are plenty of time to do a LOT more damage and in this case it'd be done with relish because it would be done for spite. bush is liable to add a whole new luster to the term "Sore Loserman." So Kerry will need some HELPFUL people in Congress.

And, yes, Welcome to DU!

6. It was also money used to sledgehammer an election
and push the statehouse even more to the right, then to overturn the Federal Court's redistricting plan and push through their own.

By violating Texas law, they were able to raise much more money for the statewide elections than the Democrats, and this directly affects us all, as we shall probably see this election.

We may be facing the last chance of any constitutent republic in this country, and it's sadly a result of an endemic flaw in the American character: admiration of "getting away with it".
