More Voters Identifying as Republicans
Rise in GOP Numbers May Impact Elections

Fri Sep 24, 5:37 PM ET

By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Voters in recent surveys are more frequently describing themselves as Republicans, a shift that could affect November elections up and down the ticket if it continues.

In some measure, it's a reflection of the great success of the Republican campaign in late August and early September," said Andrew Kohut, a director of the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press. "Many of the people who considered themselves independents may be feeling better about the Republican Party."

A review of national polls after the Republican National Convention found a slight shift in the number of people who described themselves as Republicans compared with the number who said they were Democrats. Polls after the Democratic National Convention, showed strength for Democratic nominee John Kerry (news - web sites) and the Democrats.

For example, an August AP-Ipsos poll had 50 percent self-described Democrats or those who leaned Democratic and 44 percent Republican or those leaning that way. In the September AP-Ipsos poll, 50 percent were Republican or leaned toward the GOP, and 43 percent were inclined to call themselves Democrats.

2. Where did this survey come from?
It seems like more people are registering as Democrats than Republicans.

9. No, I meant new registrants.
There was an article in the RMN just recently about the 30,000 new registrants, and how a slight majority was registering Dem.

I'll look it up - just had it a minute ago . . .

4. More people polled? How come the actual registration data......
.....completely contradicts this poll?

We wouldn't want the actual facts of how people are registering to interfere with the conclusions reached in this poll now would we? :)

LOL!

6. The logic of this article escapes me
You would look at new voter registrations in each state to see if more people were registering repub, not ask people on an already biased poll. More repub propaganda. In my county in Pa. the majority of new voters are Democrats.

10. This article is just another.......................
Karl Rove press release. Last night, a DUer (can't remember his or her name) was pointing out to thread readers that the url of an article gives clues as to its origin.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040924/ap_on_el_pr/leaning_gop

Toward the end of the url is:

ap_on_el_pr/leaning_gop. The DUer told us that ap=Associated Press, on_el_pr = on election press release and leaning_gop is self explanatory.

No research whatsoever was done by this reporter, he is merely printing a press release, probably directly from Karl Rove, as an article.

In this case, press release = propaganda. Don't believe the hype.

And don't forget to educate other DUers how to read the urls on these so-called articles. 8^)

11. Give it a P
Give it an R

for PRopaganda = this is all prep work...paving the way to another theft if they think they'll be able to get away with it.

Or if they cancel elections they can say forever more that the Republicans would have won anyway.
