AZ Star OP/ED: No more fear: Vote as if it matters - because it does
Edited on Sun Sep-26-04 05:26 AM by Iceburg
am the odd man out at a political rally. I love my country, love the bad coffee, weak beer and menacing use of the frying pan.

But I seem to flunk in simple partisan allegiances, being essentially a tree hugger with numerous guns and a thirst for wine and a lust for disreputable venues.

Recently a slick New York magazine, GQ, a rag basically devoted to helping men understand the deep meaning of brown shoes, asked me to prepare a reading list for the next president of the United States. As a patriot, I was happy to comply.

In the midst of this sacred task, I wrote a definition of my country I will now share with you: Think of a Bible wrapped with a garter belt, with a loaded gun as the bookmarker.

1. I'm glad to hear true conservatives coming to their senses
There are those, sadly, who have not and will not, but my deepest hope is that we're able to remove the mafioso who have stolen our WH on Nov 2.

Without a doubt, the most important election in our lifetime.

I don't care much for Kerry, I would have preferred Dean, but I do care about seeing our republic restored.

6. I was for Dean, too! But now I care
for Kerry! Dean is doing yeoman's work out there for our Democracy and I am so proud of him..but this is Kerry's job to be our President now and I have been convinced that he will be the next President of the United States!

This guy talks like a Liberal!

3. And a bonus that it came from Arizona !!!
I am trying to gauge the real mood in the swing states by reviewing the headlines an op/eds in the local newspapers. Today's feature swing state was AZ ... and I must say, I impressed.

9. Yes, from the vast hinterland of Canada
along US-Canada border.

If the FEC would permit me to do more, I certainly would.

5. I have lived in Arizona since 1969
And I have been a liberal my entire life. We deserve the reputation we have to some degree - we have certainly produced some of the more ghastly representatives in Congress, e.g., J. D. Hayworth,John Shadegg, etc - but don't forget, we also have not only a democrat for a governor, but a democratic woman for governor, and not just any democratic woman, but one of the brighter democratic politicians in the country, Janet Napolitano.

I was crushed to hear that the Kerry campaign has basically written off Arizona and will not be spending any more money on ads here, because I think it is much closer than these so called polls are predicting.

This editorial helps me to remember that there are a lot of sane people inside and outside of Arizona.

We must vote like our lives and our futures depend on it, because they undoubtedly do.

8. I think I may have good news for you!
As I have read on DU..We aren't pulling out of Arizona, or any of those other states..we simply stopped the ads for about a week..to regroup or whatever, but I think you should investigate further before you think that the Dems have pulled out permanently.

Probalbly started by some freeps?

I don't where the thread is now but there were some threads here that backed up what I said.:)
