a dinner table full of traitors

http://www.buzzflash.com/mailbag/04/01/mai04019.html

January 15, 2004 -- STEVEN Brill had a summit meeting of TV anchormen and their bosses over dinner at his Fifth Avenue apartment on Tuesday night with Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge to discuss how they'll cover the next terrorist attack. Brill, whose book "After" detailed the response to 9/11, spearheads the America Prepared Campaign to educate the public. Joining Brill, his wife Cynthia and two of their three kids for dinner were Fox News Channel boss Roger Ailes, ABC News prexie David Westin, CBS News chief Andrew Heyward, CNN anchor Aaron Brown, plus Peter Jennings and Tom Brokaw.

Gosh, aren't we lucky?

It's a good thing they've discussed this. After all, we must have graphics/scary music/"acceptable images" going out 24x7, and they must be arranged for in advance!

HEY, STEVE, AND OTHER MEDIA WHORES: HOW ABOUT REPORTING WHAT'S REALLY HAPPENING, INSTEAD OF YOUR PRE-PACKAGED, NETWORK-FRIENDLY VERSION OF IT?

Phew. I think I need to go lie down, and it's only a bit after 11 AM here...

1. actually, I like Brill
He seems to me quite good, unlike the rest of the dinner companions. Also used to have an interesting "blog" about 3 or 4 years ago.

2. So they are choreographing the next terrorist attack?

Here's a tip guys. I have a name for you: Jerry Bruckheimer. Bring him in. He's expensive, but worth every penny if you want to have good-looking explosions...

:eyes:

Finally, next time, try doing a little character development BEFORE the disaster. Take a tip from the master, Irwin Allen, on this one. If we can find out a little bit about 12 or so victims beforehand, it makes the disaster that much more relevant when it's happening onscreen. Meeting the survivors afterwards is just not the same. So make sure to have at least one couple experiencing marital difficulties (the disaster will bring them closer together), a family with a cute little girl, preferably with a little dog (of course, both of them will be safe, although her family is probably toast), and also make sure to add some ethnic color here and there. It's 2004, after all.

3. Very alarming
Not one of these people can see how Orwellian this is? The concept of coordinating coverage of anything with each other and with a Government official borders on government control of the media. People object when we call this government facist but what other term comes to mind when you see this type of behavior? You know, these networks now have the "news" divisions in their entertainment divisions and they are all for-profit. This is obvious collusion and should be a violation of anti-trust laws.

5. I think that is an understatement, Catfish
"Dreadfully fightening"

"Reminiscent of Nazi and Soviet media"

"Odious and despiccable to a Free People"

Even THOSE words are rather tame for this.

And yes, this is more than a little reminiscent of fascism of the OLD TYPE, let alone the new fascism that is a-borning in the Empire.

4. If Ridge was really doing his job.....
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 02:55 PM by RandomKoolzip
We wouldn't have to be PLANNING for the next attack.....

Kinda reveals just how transparent the junta has become though. Why are they so sure that there will be a NEXT attack? And isn't there a conflict of interest issue here, when Ridge is dining with the meida?

In one fell swoop, everything we've been saying has been proven today.

6. This must have been as fun as the Stalin-Molotov-Pravda dinner
AT LEAST as much fun.

Where oh where has the Old American Republic gone?

I fear it is never coming back in our lifetimes and even if it does, not until much blood is shed.

7. Brokaw and the Lousiest Media Generation
He should write a confessional book. Sounds like a meeting of Undertakers deciding on what to do with democracy.
