North San Diego County DU's
I have never been politically active but I am ready now. I have been in the dark, being too busy working and raising 2 boys by myself. I no longer have to work thanks to my new husband. My kids go back to school in 3 weeks. I want to get the word out about this administration and awaken the people that are too busy to notice. Is there anyone else out there that knows where I can start.

1. I would contact the San Diego chapter of the Dem party
if you are interested in supporting the Dem party...otherwise, I would need more info. You, however, are in a great position to make a difference with Camp Pendleton right there and Bush's cuts to military families and benefits for disabled vets.

If there are other issues you are more passionate about, let me know. My time is divided between san Diego and Orange County lately.

2. Hello, Neighbor
As you know, we live in one of the most conservative counties in the US...certainly in California. But I have to tell you I was really pleasantly surprised by the anti-war protests during the run-up to the war...both in the city of SD and North County. So it's not hopeless. One thing you can do is hook up with one of the presidential campigns. I attended a Kerry Connection two weeks ago (there'll be another in August) and it was good to get face-to-face with a roomful of like-minded people. Not all were committed to Kerry, but all were committed to defeating Bush. That might be a good place to start, and you can build on it. Another good place is with the folks in your immediate social circle--neighbors, friends, school, work. The Right has had the run of things for a long time down here, but if OC can replace Bob Dornan with Loretta Sanchez, anything is possible.
