Rosie vs Bareback Andy - Why the Double Standard?
I see that a few posts in other Rosie threads have noted Rosie's bush cheer-leading in the past. That now seems over.

Just a few days ago, Andrew Sullivan penned a mea culpa-esque column on bush's War on Gays. He was roundly taken to task for being a staunch bush supporter until bush did something that directly effected him negatively.

Today, Rosie is on CNN calling bush's action "the most vile action ever taken by an American president." As others have noted, this is the same Rosie who was particularly vocal in her pro-bush adulation post-9/11. Yet I don't seem to see the same level of vitriol directed at Rosie as is directed at Sullivan.

Why is that? Discuss...

1. You go diss Rosie and see what happens
Not something I'd do.

You'll get flamed so fast your underwear will start to smoke.

2. andrew sullivan
has constantly praised the GOP and its not like this is the first time the GOP has done something Homophobic...he would sell his soul for 30 pieces of silver...i despise him..and he has often proudly stated he is a right wing christian...

he also is a bare backer putting many young gay men at risk etc...he is just despicable

i dont know about rosies political beliefs but how often does she go cheering everything the GOP does?

odd.

6. good question...
I think Rosie had "progressive" roots before she essentially went Bush-crazy after 911, while Sully has had quite a history as a RW and Bush-enabler...

Frankly, they are both an incredible paradox for me....It is easy to discount differing opinions (RW versus progressive) among individuals who are intellectually "lazy" (whether well educated or not). But, this doesn't appear to be the case with either Rosie or Andrew... So, why they could not see that for whatever strengths they viewed in Bush were so intensely countered by the negatives that would impact them at the core of their "being," I can't fathom....As someone pointed out in another thread, many of us don't agree with everything out supported politicians represent. But, here, we are talking about an entire set of beliefs and actions that are inherently negative for gays/lesbians (let alone the rest of the US population)... So, again, a paradox. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when Madonna and Rosie were discussing the latter's previous support for Bush, though... LOL

7. The Log Cabin Republicans . . .
. . . came out yesterday against Bush. These are the same guys who sent 25% of the gay vote to Bush in 2000. It won't happen again.

What Bush did is obviously pissing off a lot of people. That's a good thing. Go Rosie!

TYY

8. There's a big Difference between the 2 IMHO

not that I have dissed either on the board .

but right after 911 I myself ripped all my
Hail to the Theif bumber stickers off my car .

it wasn't until about 20 days after 911 that I
felt bush was taking us down the WRONG road and
started openly opposing him again.

I think for people in NY it may have taken a little
longer.

Many people were in a state of shock after 911 .
I will never hold a show of unity directly following
911 against anyone. It been bushco's actions following
911 that have driven people to opposition .

Many people gave bush the benefit of doubt after 911 .

But He Blew It ... Big Time .

Rosie has never been Republican , her whole life .

9. for dems in nyc
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 03:40 PM by lionesspriyanka
i live in nyc..911 just strengthened my belief that that man is a bad leader..during 911 guiliani (also a repub) was our real leader giving the city strength and courage..bush didnt even come here till ages later

i know this is off the topic i am just saying i have always thought him and idiot and always will

same for sullivan...if bush offers them a better tax cut he will go ahead and vote for bush regardless of the gay issues

i dont think rosie will vote for bush even if she gets to keep more of her money

11. Rosie ain't at all like Sully!!
Check out Rosie's liberal bona fides here:

http://www.boycottliberalism.com/biographies/Rosie.htm

Here's a sample from her interview with Al Gore prior to the 2000 election:

"A lot has been said about what’s been done in the last eight years. A lot of good if you ask me."

"Public schools, and I couldn't agree more. I think it will be the death of public education in America." - On school vouchers.

"I definitely think the last eight years the country has been a much better place than it had been in a long time."

"It is thrilling to have you here sir. I hope to see you in the White House come November. Thank you very, very much."

Rosie is anathema over at right wing websites. Sully is their hero. Need I say more?
