554 U.S. service members dead.
"As of Thursday, March 11, 554 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq (news - web sites), according to the Department of Defense (news - web sites). Of those, 380 died as a result of hostile action and 174 died of non-hostile causes, the department said."

Bush should be impeached for lying and manipulating Americans into this war.

4. I stand corrected. Unfortunately, this number could go up before the day
is over.

6. or is it 560?
Edited on Fri Mar-12-04 11:51 AM by Tolania
According to www.antiwar.com and they are usually pretty accurate.

Is it just me, or have the last 10 not been in the news AT ALL?!?!?
I know they were kept quiet before, but the last 9 or 10 I have heard NOTHING about. Just yesterday, antiwar.com said 557. Now 560!?!

Added on Edit: I am so freaking glad my husband has been in Kuwait the last 5 days and is on his way home in the next week or two.

5. The number is actually much higher, most likely...will look for the link
It appears that the military is playing with these numbers like they are with the unemployment numbers. These are the numbers reflecting those killed outright, no question.
Those who are wounded and die later are not being counted in this number for the most part, and many who are probably dead are being taken for 'treatment' before they can be declared dead in triage or whatever (and therefore counted) and then when declared dead later, also miss making the official count.
The number I saw was over 1500 I think.

7. Yes! I think I read this on Bring Them Home Now...
Apparently, you are counted as 'dead' if you die on the scene. But if you are loaded into an ambulance and die en route, you are counted as 'injured'. Pretty twisted logic. But then, look who's twisting it!
