WWII Nazi murder suspect charged (BBC)
I was going to post this in LBN but feel that GD would be a better forum for it, as I would like to expand the discussion into one about the betrayal of all US WWII veterans, and our nation itself imho, because of the clandestine recruitment of Nazis into our national security organizations during their very foundation in 1947.

We could also discuss how prominent Americans, like former CIA Director Richard McGarrah Helms and George W. Bush come from families that include Third Reich profiteers like Prescott Bush and Gates McGarrah.

We could also talk about the possibility that we are facing new forms of fascism-such as the neo-conservative agenda, global corporatism, etc.

First though, here is the article from the BBC:
"German prosecutors have charged a former Nazi commander with the murder of 164 Slovak civilians during the last months of World War II."

3. You and your Slovak ancestors were considered sub-humans
by Nazis, John. The Third Reich used racist, eugenecist, pseudo-science to propagate that terrible idea. I and some of my ancestors would also have been classified as sub-human.

In the Third Reich sub-humans were slaves.

On a more pleasant note, one of the things I admired President Clinton for was his prosecution of Nazis.

2. clandestine recruitment of Nazis into our national security organizations
That alone should send this whole country into an outrage.

*sigh*

4. Some very powerful people felt it was ok to do that because of the
transitional viewpoint that communism, specifically the USSR, was our gravest threat. I grew up fearing the communist menace, as did all those of my generation.

Today I can see how these fascists have led us astray from democracy and our Constitution.

Here are some links that show some of the roles Nazis assumed as American citizens working in US national security. One of the better known recruitment programs was called Operation PAPERCLIP.

5. I have always wondered why discussion of this hidden history
is so unpopular.

It must set off intense cognitive dissonance, or the conformity to authority that has been programmed into us, that blind trust that those in charge always have our best interests at heart.

Who cares about a bunch of old Nazis anyway, we won WWII and The Cold War too.

We did a lot of that through the development of superior technology, especially in weapons-just like the militarism inherent to fascism.
That's where Nazis like Werner von Braun came in handy.

A lot of that militarism has been perverted into the false patriotism of today imho. And that militarism has been politicized here, very RW.

But it isn't a popular subject to discuss.

6. Yep, the original intelligence failure had to be recruiting Nazis
Nazis that found a political home in the RW of the Republican Party, and jobs in the CIA when it was created by The National Security Act of 1947.

7. Maybe we've already discussed this too much here.
I realize it's hard to discuss US fascism.
But we have done that here from time-to-time.
