Help I'm Drowning in Cable News!
Within the last couple of days, it seems there have been a few bombings in Iraq, with more than a few casualties. The cable news networks played tape and interviewed everybody, but God, about ONE of them - for hours and hours and hours and hours and... hours. Today, we have the Zawahri guy supposedly cornered and again, no other news exists. Is this a profit thing? Is it cheaper just to talk about the same thing over and over and over and over and over again, for hours and hours and hours and hours? I can't take it!!!! I'm almost tempted to watch Judge Judy. You'd think these people would be able to multi-task better. I'm turning the t.v. off.

1. I recommend this therapy:
shut off the tv and put in the following CD: Heart to Heart by Diane Schuur and B.B. King.

It's helping me! :hi:

6. What gets me is how journalism works now
CNN: Ok, what are they showing on MSNBC? Zawahri? Ok. Put it on here.

MSNBC: Ok, what are they showing on Fox? Zawahri? Ok. Put it on here.

FOX: Ok, what are they showing on CNN? Zawahri? Ok. Put it on here, but do it louder and make it look like CNN's lying.

Rinse and Repeat.

7. Kimber, TURN THAT CRAP OFF!
Sorry for shouting but you needed that.

:freak: :freak:

Get your news from newspapers and internet. Corporate TV Pravda is watered-down half-truths, bullshit, and arrogant Bushevik Pundits feigning impartiality.

Watching that makes you LESS INFORMED and MORE IGNORANT.

Relax for today. Delete the Corporate TV Pravda stations from your channel list, which forces you to actively turn to them on the rare occasions when they might be useful.

Tomorrow, start your subscription to the local newspaper. Read it and Buzzflash.com and Mediawhoresonline.com (when it's updated).

And forget the TV. At this point in history it has no other purpose but to entertain and deceive as a method of making you buy crap you don't want.

Save the TV for entertainment only (with rare exceptions such as 9/11 where instant information makes the downside of watching that crap necessary).

9. Thank you.
I have gotten pretty addicted to it lately. I quit for awhile and actually got some things accomplished. I didn't realize how mind numbing it was. I'm going on a "news fast." I'll check in here just to make sure nobody's blown up anything that hasn't been blown up before and then I'm going to paint.

Thanks again for the "intervention."

11. Sure, TV has it's purpose
Increasingly banal and yet shocking entertainment designed to put you into a "buying mood" which is exploited by psychomanipulative advertising that tries to make you feel bad about yourself so you can scratch that itch and feel better by buying Product A...no by buying Product B...no by buying Product C...no, well just feel bad you Imperial Subject and paralyzd with fear, which is how Uncle Karl likes you.

I'm being only moderately sarcastic hear. Don't get me wrong. I watch TV (just not Corporate TV Pravda). I just recognize it for what it is.

99% of the time it is my enemy and the enemy of enlightenment, critical thinking, education, your self-image, etc. etc. etc.

No one is saying not to watch March Madness (i'll be watching, too) but know it for what it is.

Go rent that old movie "Network" which itself has been rendered almost banal given reality has outstripped it's nightmare scenario 100 times over. Looking at it like that, it's banality is secondary to the brilliance and prophetic-ness of it's vision...

Go rent it. At least there is a positive use for the TV.

13. What's March Madness?
I only watch CNN. (Which, obviously has put me over the edge because I watch it all day long and I really, really can't take it anymore.) And, I watch HGTV, Everybody Loves Raymond and American Idol. That's it.

I have been reading a lot. I'm in an African American Literature class. Good, good stuff. And, I'm an artist. So, I paint. I get sucked in though, by that damn CNN. No more. NO MORE. Bad CNN. Bad.

Thank you all for your help. You've brought me back to reality.
