Cokie Roberts on NPR: " 'Marning, Baahb..."
The usual snotty tone...except that she did concede that the issues were working against Bush. She stated that Seniors were not happy with the 'Drug' Bill and governors and educators were not happy with No Child Left Behind.

She also had to admit thru clenched teeth that Clarke's resume is outstanding. She wasn't happy at all whatsoever - she didn't even give us the usual vomit-intonation when using the word "Democrat". good day for us, bad day for her.

She's still a royal pain in the ass, however...

1. I don't understand what happened to Cokie.
She comes from a well respected Dem family. If anyone knows how she was seduced by the dark side, I'd like to know.

2. She decided Rummy is sexy
what more needs to be said.

Oh and she never got over the fact that she and her mother were kept waiting by President Clinton when they came to the WH...something to do with her father. I guess Cokie loves good manners more than she understands that a President has to balance a lot of things, one of the least of which is an anchor with badly frosted hair.

6. In the 90s, when NPR came under attack from the right, she was...
one of the first to jump ship. She went to ABC and did a show with Sam Donaldson and became the darling of the Washington cocktail circuit.

7. I have an idea.

It's the limo liberal syndrome that we all hate to see. Democrats who are well connected are just as prone to get seduced by the good ole boy network. And if you see a lot of that, you lose respect for people who profess to be men of the people. In that regard, Republicans are more honest about who they are -- selfish, self-centered etc. -- than Democrats. Cokie may have reached that level where she saw too much and just said, well, as long as I'm in it for myself, the Republicans have a better plan.

8. A lot of them must be so caught up in their social scene that
Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 08:20 AM by CalamityJane
they have lost all perspective. I say that because I will never forget when I read in the TV Guide a little interview with her where she was commenting right after the 2000 election that she was very upset about the whole thing becasue it was interfering with her holiday parties! She also said that she was a mother.

She really should retire, but the money and the easy work must be too good to give up. I wish people like her could see the damage they are doing to the country and to ordinary people's live's because nobody is holding the administration accountable. I don't know how they live with themselves.

The thing that annoys me with people like her talking about their motherhood is that she could easily afford to stay home, but over the years I have known so many friends and relatives, women and men, who would have LOVED to have more time home with their kids but couldn't afford it. So people like her bragging about how they are such wonderful, sacrificing mothers seem like clueless pain-in-the-arses to me.

4. check me off
in the cokie is kookie column.
she's one of those reporters i loathe the most because she lets her disdain of democrats, liberals, etc fly so high.
the establishment press likes to present her as a creature of some intellectual standing and that galls me even more.

There are far worse on the networks and cable. She's recovering from a rough bout with breast cancer. Lighten up.

10. You're right and we shouldn't lose our humanism
it is what distinguishes us from the other side...

But she shouldn't lose her objectivity (what's left of it) either.

12. The problem is or continues to be
that she has always spoken about the Bush White Houses with great reverence - you can hear it in her voice. When Clinton was the real President, she couldn't say enough horrible things about him, his family, and his staff and she was venomous, both in style and substance.

Her predictive abilities are 'guarded to poor'.

19. Sorry
But I'll reserve my compassion for the 600 dead and 12,000 maimed American troops whose path to Iraq was greased by Cokie's constant squawking of WMDs, and the tens of thousands of Iraqi men, women and children who died to the sound of her orgasmic raptures over "shock & awe."

I am sorry that she's had cancer.

It has NOTHING to do with her emptyheaded onair idiocy.

Keep the personal separate from the political, please.

13. It was truly pathetic...
.. she gave 10 seconds to the Clarke position and a minute and a half to the "rebuttals", which frankly fly in the face of the truth as I understand it.

If you are still giving money to NPR affiliates, please consider finding a more useful application of your funds. Failing that, please flush the cash down the toilet.

With friends like these who needs enemies? :)

20. the story was almost totally the Bush rebuttals
they only briefly mentioned and summarized Clarke's charges, they did not go into detail, they did not have quotes from him on the devastating specifics.

But Cokie did a great job repeating all of the details of the Bush "rebuttals."

Disgusting as usual, a mouthpiece for the right.
