Jesus! Col. Hackworth calls Rummy an assh*le in Salon!
Requires a subscription, but it's a real eye-opener.
<snip>
Salon: What would you tell Rumsfeld if you could talk to him?

Hackworth: In mid April, I wrote a piece that asks for Rumsfeld to be fired, to be relieved. I took enormous heat for that. He went in light, on the cheap, he has misunderstood the whole war, he should go ... Rumsfeld is an arrogant asshole. That's a quote, by the way.

3. Arrogant is putting it mildly
Rumsfeld is probably one of the most arrogant people I've ever had the displeasure of listening to. Dangerously arrogant. On NOW they showed a clip of him explaining to a congressional committee why we should deploy the "Star Wars" ABM system now, even though it is untested. He sat there spouting forth the most absurd nonsense in the most unruffled and reasonable manner. Sen. Levin, who was questioning him, had a look on his face that said, "You have to be the stupidest f**k I've ever seen..."

9. Just because nobody else likes him
... doesn't mean Bush won't ask him to replace Powell.

13. Kissenger on Rumsfeld
(and what a picture THAT makes :puke: )
Tough to track the quote's pedigree, but from The Sideshow: http://www.sideshow.idps.co.uk/saug03.htm#032306

"He's the most ruthless man I ever met... and I mean that as a compliment."
- Henry Kissinger on Donald Rumsfeld

7. He is far from being the last to call Rummy an asshole.
In fact, I understand it is now acceptable to use the terms "asshole" and "Rummy" interchangeably.

8. I'm not surprised
I have family members who are career army, including a brother who just retired (went in 1968). And they tell me the Army despises Rummy. The brass has hated him passionately since he took over in the Pentagon, but now the enlisted guys are catching on to him, too.

What's going on in Iraq is creating a lot of Democratic voters in the ranks.

10. Hackworth rocks! Our Dems in Washington need to jump on this
as their handle to pound shrub about the folly of Iraq.

I'm not holding my breath, however.
