Reason Rice wants to testify again--change her story?
From Salon:

"A former FBI wiretap translator with top-secret security clearance, who has been called "very credible" by Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, has told Salon she recently testified to the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States that the FBI had detailed information prior to Sept. 11, 2001, that a terrorist attack involving airplanes was being plotted."

more:

"(Sibel) Edmonds (the interpreter) is offended by the Bush White House claim that it lacked foreknowledge of the kind of attacks made by al-Qaida on 9/11. "Especially after reading National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice where she said, we had no specific information whatsoever of domestic threat or that they might use airplanes. That's an outrageous lie. And documents can prove it's a lie."

I read somewhere today that Rice wants to clarify her statement to the commission about not knowing that planes would be used as missiles. I can't find the source now, but I wonder if the reason she's so anxious to testify is because that statement is going to sound more and more like a lie--it already does to us, but the general public hasn't quite made the leap. Kristen Breitweiser also talked about it on Hardball tonight--pointing to a book that she said was "replete" with references to planes being used as missiles.

Once this kind of thing starts to seep into the mainstream the Bushies go to battle stations.

1. Richard Ben-Veniste
Had a whole fistful of examples from before 9-11 in the hearings on Monday.

She's either lying or incompetent (I favor the latter, personally.)

7. Why must she be lying OR incompetent? Why not BOTH lying AND

incompetent? Seems to fit them all better.

9. I think Bush inserted the words
"New York City" to make it technically not a lie.

3. I don't think Condi wants to do anything but debunk Clarke's testimony.
.
.
.

Obviously she is concerned about Clarke's testimony.

Why?

Because we believe him!!

And

There is NO way that she should be allowed to say anything, unless it is under oath, and in a public forum.

I wouldn't believe Condi anyways, . .

She's just another piece of the BFEE's WarMachine

That first sentence is very telling.
"very credible" by Sen. Charles Grassley R-Iowa, referring to the translator.
Takes away the repug spin before it even starts.
Do I hear water running?

5. More on Sibel
Found this at a Tom Flocco (don't know anything about the site, but for what it's worth...)

"I appeared once on CBS 60 Minutes but I have been silenced by Mr. Ashcroft, the FBI follows me, and I was threatened with jail in 2002 if I went public," Edmonds told tomflocco.com.

Much, much more at site about this--don't know how I missed the story.

6. I remember Kindasleaza saying they had no idea

anyone would attack us by flying planes into buildings. She made out as if no one had ever dreamed of suicide pilots flying planes into targets. Um, Condi, can you say "kamikaze"? And don't give me that "I wasn't born until after WW II" excuse. Neither was I, but I know about kamikazes. They were in the cartoons and comic books when we were growing up.

That "never thought of it" excuse is even lamer, if possible, considering that on that very day, Sept. 11, 2001, someone (I think DOD, but could have been military) was conducting some sort of disaster simulation involving planes being flown into the Pentagon. They had a large scale model of the Pentagon to work with.

And Bush* had an intelligence briefing on August 6 indicating that Al Qaeda would attack us with hijacked planes. What more did he need -- a day and time spelled out for him? Oh, I know -- he didn't have a deck of cards portraying the enemies yet, did he?

11. New Here...
I am so glad I joined this site. I have been a Democrat for many years. I have never seen this many people thinking in my kinda terms, in well...never.

When Bush made his comments about not knowing ahead of time regarding the attack on NY City, the date and airplane.

I thought... this don't sound right. Several comments he has made lately regarding this has been to specific about the specifics.

I believe he is trying to deliberately mislead the public.

But what I can't see is why the media, or the DNC has not picked up on this and made a literal federal case about it.

There has been so much his administration has done and not been called to task on. I think no stone should go unturned and all their dirty linens aired publicly and continually till his own voters want him gone.

13. Welcome!!
Greetings, welcome to the warm and diverse world where some sense of reason and sanity resides. Enjoy your stay.

This regime has parsed its way around 911 all week and it's backfiring. The fact Mz. Rice is refusing to raise the hand, take the oath and speak openly is not sitting too well even with the party regulars. She's now stuck with this mess and the longer she dances with it, the more negative things look. May she dance straight through November. Her credibility is already shot as Clarke's testimony not only held up to vicious attacks, but he "outsound bit" her bad...and impression means a lot.

The smartest thing Democrats can do now is just let the 911 situation simmer most the time and come to boil every so often. We know the commission is not going to get the real answers, so we need to ask them ourselves and hope more people like Clarke will step forward and coroborate what many of us have known for 3 years. This regime is evil, corrupt and out of control.

Again...welcome!

12. she must have gotten the new script changes
last minute changes to the "script" arrived, so they have to do another take

it might just be easier if all of the WH administration are gathered together and they read the script outloud and in unison...
