White House too thin-skinned to join grown-up conversation on terrorism
The Times should have noted that they are too busy varnishing up Bush's image for the next election to be concerned about dealing with the real problem of terrorism. To them, terrorism is a PR problem more than a securiy problem for our nation.

<snip>
The White House is so thin-skinned and defensive, however, that it simply cannot bring itself to join what ought to be a grown-up national conversation of how best to deal with terrorism. Its schoolyard name-calling does no one any good, least of all Mr. Bush, who is made to appear far more interested in undermining Mr. Clarke's credibility than in addressing the heart of his critique.

1. Good morning, kentuck!
The White Haus cannot join the conversation because it has nothing to say. The Regime was so busy being Not Clinton that it could not (and still will not) admit that the Big Dog had a pretty good handle on things, especially the imminent threat of Terra.

It's Watergate Redux, boys and girls. Watch for the sweat on bu$h's upper lip. When it appears, his political end is near.

(I believe I would be watching Condo Lizard Reisssssss's upper lip as well!)

2. because they know the terrorism threat is exaggerated
if they knew the one successful attack only succeeded because it had some help, of course they would feel that way....

5. They're Simply too Shocked...
...to find out that the people and SOME of the press have started to question them and that, at this point at least, "news" is not a simple reading of their press releases.

7. They are arrogantly stupid
and as so have no response. As Clarke has stated, they have their agenda, and don't want to hear anything that goes against it, because they know what they think is right. Now that people are >gasp< questioning them, they have no idea what to do. Somehow calling Clarke a 'terrorist' doesn't seem appropriate. Of course, if he'd been a school teacher.....
