I watched "Unity Dinner" replay and have been Depressed all Day!
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 05:45 PM by KoKo01
I didn't catch it until the C-Span repeat this a.m. I went into deep depression over it. I don't know why. Kerry gave an excellent speech, so did Clinton. They were trying to pull together, but I picked up "undercurrents." Something was missing for me in what should have been such an "upbeat event."

One thing that bothered me, was that I haven't had a chance to vote in a Primary yet. So, I sort of feel I didn't have a voice in the "Unity." But, I don't think that's what has me depressed. I don't know what it is about this event that sent me into the depths. I should be really excited, but I'm not. :-( Why?

On Edit: Maybe I feel left out because I couldn't vote, yet? After so much time and energy invested in politics after the "Selection" and not to be able to vote? Maybe it's as simple as that...but I'm really down about this..

1. Maybe it's because you saw
all of the wonderful people we have in the Dem party and realize what a waste these last three years have been without Democratic leadership. Think of how different things would have been....

Oh well, guess we all have to work harder in the coming months :-).

2. I only watched part of it. where was DK?
I also missed Jimmy Carter, my favorite! I think it was great to at least see them all together. I haven't had the chance to vote yet either. They shouldn't have done this until closer to the end but I realize they need to make money right now.

4. DK wasn't invited.
But at least you can still vote for him, as I did a week ago Tuesday in the Illinois primary.

15. Well, dahlink, then redirect your thoughts. Think about Richard Clarke
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 07:14 PM by calimary
and everything he's done to save this country, this week. This very, very special week. He's done ALL the heavy lifting, and the shock waves are STILL reverberating, with more to come, very, very likely. That ought to buoy you up. It sure has helped me. I've been feeling like a million bucks, ALL DAY! I haven't felt this good, or this optimistic about November, EVER, I think. This MAY be the best I've felt, all things considered, since Clinton was still in office. I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Not just the repeated, presumably empty, promises that there'll be one someday... And the light has grown brighter every day this week.

Richard Clarke is Van Helsing.

Richard Clarke is our David to their Goliath.

Richard Clarke is our Mighty Mouse.

Richard Clarke is our John Dean to their Nixon. And, heck, John Dean even has a book out that's presumably pretty explosive, too, called "Worse than Watergate." But his book's been bigfooted by Clarke's book.

Richard Clarke is our Harry Potter to their Lord Voldemort.

Richard Clarke is our Richard Clarke against their bush.

6. The ONLY thing I got down a litte about was that Dennis wasn't
there; also, no Carol Mosley-Braun. I think they both should have been there, though I understand the reasons for Dennis. I missed him and Carol's beautiful smile. All of these candidates were wonderful and have contributed so much to this energized and united Democratic Party. I love them all, even Lieberman.

25. I thought Mosley-Braun was there.....
She was refered to more than once and it seemed as if Kerry was nodding toward her though they didn't show her. When JK did mention the candidates he did leave Kucinich out, probably because he's still running.

8. Inspite of all the "upbeat" music it just didn't hang together, in some
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 06:30 PM by KoKo01
way..not sure.

It's maybe hard to be upbeat when times are so bad in the country with job losses, all the Bush lies and the rest of it.

Seeing Al Gore and thinking what "might have been." If we had gotten our "act together" and fought the "selection" the way the Repugs would have and did actually with their "paid staffers" sent to disrupt the recount.

13. depressed too, different reasons
The video they showed before Clinton spoke *really* depressed me.

If you guys think the last three years have been long, remember the horrible 12 years of Reagan/Bush we lived through. Corruption, greed, Star Wars, an Iraqi war, crooks all through the guv'mit.

Seeing the footage of the '92 campaign and the famous bus tour brought back memories of how exciting it was then to think that we could actually wrestle our country back from the mitts of those bastards. I'd lived my entire adult life under a Repuke administration and was SICK of it.

Then the shots of the '96 convention - we knew we'd win, it was nuttin' but a party. None of this desperation that an election might be stolen or that we'd be at war with the planet if we lost. That was the greatest convention ever, at least if you're on the winning side.

And now fast forward to today, with valid worries over the possibility of a stolen election, living under increasing dictatorship, lies and war and bullshit 24/7. I don't think I'll ever feel the same way about politics again as I did in '92, that the people actually count in a democracy. And that depressed the hell out of me.

20. Thanks Neecy, I think what you say maybe is what got me down. The
video clips plus seeing Al Gore. And, I watched it after I saw Howard Fineman and Don Imus just slaming Gore this a.m. And, all that's happened. It's as though promise was stolen from us time and time again.

16. I think the campaign songs this year have to be way more upbeat and fast!
This "Won't Back Down" has the right message but is way too laid back. Same with "It's a Beautiful Day." "Don't Stop Thinking about Tomorrow" had a lot more energy...hell, let's use it again....let's go after the subliminal..

Also, I though Dennis was invited because he hasn't dropped out yet!!

And "Goodbye to You" every time Bush's mug makes an appearance.

Or, oh! "Would I Lie to You." Eurhythmics.

19. I'm feeling a bit disenfranchised too, since Iowa.
By the time my primary came up, John Kerry had been declared the candidate we would have to vote for. It's not that he won't be good, it's just I would have felt better if I didn't know who emerged on top until after I had cast my primary vote. I really think primaries should be run on the same date, like the general election.

21. Yes, I hope that the primaries can be done "regionally." This wasn't
the way to do it. If McAuliff wanted to "front load" he should have made sure that everyone had a chance to vote within a reasonable time.

Doing "regional Super Tuesdays or something like that. I feel as though so many of us never had a chance for our candidate. Kerry's fine but I've not had a chance to vote one way or the other and that is not what democracy is supposed to be. I guess it's what passes for it in Bush America, but Democrats are not Bush and even Clinton said that he thought the "front loading" was a bad idea in his speech.

23. I watched it too
and I thought it was great! I missed Dennis, but maybe he did not attend because he hasn't conceded yet? His choice not to attend perhaps? I thought the acknowledgement of Dean giving the party their voice was great. I enjoyed hearing Carter, particularly when he said Nader was a personal friend of his but that he should stick to umpiring and checking out the rear ends of cars this year. And Clinton speaking well as always, and seeing everyone putting aside their differences and uniting as a team for strength. The songs were great for nostalgic reasons - there hasn't been a whole lot of great new songs in the last couple of years with clear channel etc. only pushing what they want.

24. And, I think it's seeing Carter (October surprise), Clinton (Repug Impeach
ment) and Gore (the President) all together and wondering what the hell they will try to do to Kerry. It was an event which should have been so upbeat, but I felt this cloud of gloom over it looking at what might have been. And, of course seeing Dean in the audience another hope dashed.

I just came back to this thread after taking a break to see "Stars on Ice" which came to NC and it was great (figure skating) but I'm still trying to shake that feeling about this. :-(

...your asses in gear and drop this "depression" nonsense.

We have a very good chance of getting the NeoCon Junta removed from the centers of power, and you're feeling depressed??

Snap out of it.
