10. I can't take credit for it
I just heard Janeane Garofalo say it on The Majority Report on Air America. It makes perfect sense.

6. So you're saying her entire career is some dadaist joke?
And that really she's some smart, non-crazy, liberal woman with an advanced sense of humor and a desire to make conservatives look like nutball fascists?

Maybe.

8. Or maybe not
Maybe she's just a complete loony tune(apologies to the cartoon series) who makes a complete fool of herself every time she speaks.

11. for real! it's perfect.
See, for my money, Tony Clifton was NOT funny. (apologies to those who disagree.)
tony clifton's thing was to just be so persistently bizarre that his audience would eventually start to titter and giggle -- NERVOUSLY, not because he was doing anything particularly funny.
it's similar to when people can't think of anything to say in an awkward moment, so they just start to chuckle nervously rather than suffer an uncomfortable silence.
Coulter's thing is to keep saying more outrageous things until people react with shock! as in:
"Jesus Christ! She said her only complaint with Timothy McVeigh was that he didn't bomb the New York Times building!" (which is true. she actually said that.)
There are so so many of these creepy right-wing nut commentators now they're actually competing with each other....for air time and ink. Another example would be the truly second--tier commentators on the "Salem Radio Network." Can anyone distinquish for me the difference between Hugh Hewitt, Mike Gallagher and Dennis Praeger? They're almost interchangeable! But each of them tries to get ahead of the crowd by saying more and more outrageous shit!

(Gallagher is the guy who organized a Marshall Tucker Band to play opposite the Dixie Chicks in, I think, North Carolina. Hey, who would you rather see? Right. Most people reached the same conclusion.)

12. I thought it was completely brilliant, Kaufman's ultimate joke

the script he and Zmuda wrote, "The Tony Clifton Story," would've been a fuckin' classic.

Tony Clifton was 20 years ahead of his time, audiences would've eaten it up in the 90s-00s.
