"Mission Accomplished" banner on aircraft carrier
Until last night I thought the "Mission Accomplished" banner on the aircraft carrier photo meant that the Iraq invasion mission was accomplished.

Silly....silly me! I am so glad that I caught a Karen Hughes interview where she said she wanted to clear up a 'misunderstanding'. The "Mission Accomplished" banner only meant that.......the 'Navy aircraft carrier' had finished it's mission...that's all!

And here I was thinking that Rove and Bush were grandstanding to their 'Base' (thousands of Freepers masturbating to the "Mission Accomplished" banner while watching Fauxnews), when all the time it was just a welcome back banner for the Navy.

Phew....I'm glad that's all cleared up.

2. I wonder if those boys and girls still think..
mission accomplished?

How long were they stationed over in Iraq? As long as those required to be for a year or more?

Do they think the mission is a failure now? I wonder if they are glad that they are not over there.

5. I swear that these people don't understand
just cut your loses and admit they were wrong. Even though I love seeing republicans dig themselves into a deeper hole, I can't help and think, "Why are you bringing this back up? Just let it lie and admit you were wrong."

17. It's the difference between faith and logic.
It seems like alot of conservatives are conditioned to think in terms of faith. If you stop believing one small part of the myth, the whole thing crumbles apart. They must continue to prop up old assertions, no matter what the facts say.

I think it comes from early religious indoctrination, personally. No offense meant to our religious DUer's.

11. How can these people like Hughes live with these lies.
Edited on Fri Apr-09-04 06:31 PM by Marianne
It is obvious this thing was set up to declare victory in Iraq and we were treated to the great, ta da, scripted, spectacle of a puny little, stupid man landing on a carrier, dressed in "appropriate costume" of the fighter pilot, complete with the codpiece, landing on the carrier in a spectacular, staged event, declaring "Mission Accomplished"

WOW, what a guy. For an AWOL Commander in Chief he sure has done a good job of making people forget, in view of his grandiose staged events, that he was actually AWOL in time of war.

It was denied, further, by the embarrassed Bush team, that it was the Bush propogandists that hung this banner and had nothing to do with any of the navy troops even trying to do something so cheap as this.

Well it has been proven that Bush and his advance PR team were the ones who hung this arrogant banner.

And now, of course it it an embarrassment.

Our casualties have risen to 650 troops killed

They were killed because of the lies of George Bush. A cowardly AWOL person himself in time of war.

Bush actually blamed his own military, or these sailors, for hanging this banner and that is typical of this cowardly, puppet.

No, it was NOT HIS PR machine that did it, They did NOT hang this banner.

Yeah--right you liars.

Turns out it was his PR machine that did hang it in all of it's arrogant newspeak.

What was obvious as time went on, is that this little puny man, was acting a part, complete with costume and since then all of it, no matter how much it cost the taxpayer for this shit of a staged event, was a lie.

Yes, face it, our president is a liar. So is his National Security Advisor, who is out for the best she can get after she retires=so she is best served when she bends over and presents her butt to Bush. She is satisfied with that. She must, after all, be concerned about her
future.

Her future will be totally questionable after this.

No matter what job she lands after this ass kissing , lying presentation, she will never be wanting, that you can be sure of.

It is time for the revolution.

We do not like this shit where liars who will validate the murders of tens of thousands of innocent people, where the pursuit of empire ,using lies to invade a weak country, is an acceptable policy

NO NO --we expect more than this and if they do not get it, they we need to take our pitchforkes and shovels out to the streets and demand, through civil disobedience, the return of our democracy and our integrity and our honor.

If we want to sell democracy as a way of political life, then we must present an example

Bush has not done that. NO wonder virtually every country in the world, questions this type of democracy and this type of tryanny as has been imposed by Bush on others and to a certain extent on his own citizens.

12. original story had quote 'Combat over'
When it was obvious US soldiers were still dying, the official site changed this to 'Major combat over.'

There was extensive discussion of the change at DU. Anyone have a link?

Now the changed statement is used at DU without comment.
