So the actual PDB was 11 1/2 pages long, rather than the 2 pages
that has been released?

From another poster:

This is from Daily Kos... have seen it several places, but this is first with a link -- a German newspaper says the Aug 6 PDB is more than 1-2 pgs long which is what the White House released!

"According to an article published in Die Zeit, the German newsmag, in 10/02, the original PDB is 11 1/2 pages long. English translation here, original German here. Crawford, 8/6/01. US bush is on vacation. He wants to spend the whole month at his ranch in TX. Every morning, however, he still receives his Pres. Daily Brief, or PDB, wherein the CIA informs him about the country's security situation. On this morning, the report is straight from the CIA dir. His PDB runs 11-1/2 printed pages, instead of the usual 2-3, & carries the title, "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US"

Take a look at the pdf itself. The page numbers at the bottom of the pages have been redacted.
The WH apparently has released only the first & last pages of an 11-1/2 page document. If 911 is becoming Watergate, then the 9-pg gap is a weirdly creepy version of Rosemary Woods' "18-min gap."

2. rest may not be Bin Laden related
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A2130-2002May23?language=printer

Under Bush, the PDB has become shorter, a seven-to-10-page document containing "more targeted hard intelligence" items, with few longer than a page, according to a former senior intelligence official who was involved in the process.

It's possible the Bin Laden warning was simply one of the shorter "items" within the overall PDB. It's not clear that the rest of the PDB had items relevant to Bin Laden or even terrorism in general. They could've been completely unrelated. Given that the PDB is often characterized as a "world headlines" sort of thing this would make sense.

9. i'm just joking
... but i did want to point people seeing this thread to the other one because there is good stuff in it, including the original german article.

they think if they say 1½ enough times, it'll become fact. Duers know better.

8. I suspect...
...that's a misstatement - likely deliberate. I can see why they wouldn't want to release information about what else was in there, especially if it's not relevant.

I would also guess the PDB doesn't have an actual title other than "PDB." It wouldn't make sense that it would contain only single subjects, either, since presumabely there would be events going on all over the world that the President needs to deal with.

6. but the logic follows
The WH apparently has released only the first & last pages of an 11-1/2 page document.

There is a logic to the transition from the first released page to the second one, though. "We haven't been able to corroborate claims of Bin Laden's plan to hijack planes BUT the FBI is reporting activity consistent with hijacking plans."

I don't think there are missing pages between the two that were released. They probably come before and/or after.
