My tinfoil, paranoid theory wants its own thread

Suggesting that the war is to "protect the Jews" is a political win-win situation for Shrub. The Bush family is known to be strongly anti-semitic, so I doubt Shrub really gives a shit about "protecting Jews."

I think he is hoping this will paint dissent as anti-semitic. That's the less tinfoily part.

I also wonder if he isn't thinking that the "war on terra" will backfire and become wildly unpopular, and instead of blaming Shrub, people will instead blame Israel (or Jews in general). :tinfoilhat: I hope my paranoia is just getting the best of me.

Am I just off my meds? Has anyone else considered this possibility?

...he's making a simple play for Jewish votes.

In terms of long-term loyalties, the electorate is currently balanced on a knife's edge, as the 2000 results attest. Jews, along with African-Americans, are two of the heaviest pro-Democratic blocs. Now, the Bushistas clearly have no chance at making inroads with African-Americans, but, if they could win over Jewish voters (and I don't mean in terms of winning a majority, but at least making it a close split instead of the thorough trouncing that has normally happened in the past), the Republicans have a chance to cement their status as the majority party for years if not decades to come.

It certainly didn't escape the White House's attention that, after Bush gave Sharon a green light to re-occupy the West Bank back in 2002, a poll of Jewish voters in Florida showed a near-equal split on re-electing Bush, as opposed to the solid majority in favor of turning him out of office a year previously. Look for Boy George to do everything but start wearing a yarmukle and prayer shawl in pandering for Jewish votes this year...and his "the evildewars want to kill us because of our religions" gambit is only going to be one of many such ploys in the next few months.
