Reuters: Consumers Less Upbeat on Economy in April
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=580&e=1&u=/nm/20040416/bs_nm/economy_consumers_dc

"NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. consumer sentiment worsened unexpectedly in early April as persistent job worries weighed on Americans' view of the economy, a survey released on Friday showed."

Ah, the KEY to understanding the BushCo spin...the word "unexpectedly."

"The labor market appeared to strengthen remarkably in March, with 308,000 new jobs created, but that failed to comfort Americans."

Every time there is the smallest spike in the numbers that's in Bush's favor, you can expect to see Don Evans and John Snow shilling on Fox:

Fox News: "Do you think the economy can sustain this positive trend and continue to consistently create new jobs?"

Snow or Evans: "Yes, I do. I think it can. Yes. Yes, it will sustain and not only sustain but keep growing each and every month."

Then we get reports of fresh, shiny new layoffs as we did this week.

Meanwhile, here (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4751169/) Bush is stumping for his tax cuts:

"DES MOINES, Iowa - As millions of Americans filed their tax returns Thursday, President Bush told hundreds of Midwesterners in a state he lost four years ago that his tax cuts were boosting economic growth."

1. Almost 300,000 Of Those New Jobs Were Temporary Not Permanent
Is it any wonder that Americans don't believe the hype?

2. Bush's plan for the economy
is to just ignore it - maybe it will go away.

Those employment numbers for March were inflated by the grocery clerks getting back to work after the strike here in S. Calif. Also, a majority of the jobs that were created are low-paying service industry jobs.

As for boosting economic growth through tax cuts - what a joke! What major corporations are hiring due to receiving tax cuts? What small business is hiring due to receiving tax cuts? I'll bet he couldn't come up with a list.
