Just watched Bowling for Columbine again . . . .
and one of the news broadcast excerpts caught my attention. . . I believe it was from a local Columbine station. In Eric Harris's diary, he actually expressed an idea of hijacking a plane and flying it into New York City.

I'd seen the movie a few times, and apparently I missed this every time.

Yet another example of proof that the thought of flying planes into buildings was kicking around contrary to Rice's assertion that there's no way she could have known.

What does this have to do with anything? Not much, just an observation :).

1. Comparisons
Honestly, I don't see how Condi Rice is supposed to know the thoughts of a psychotic teenager. I'm willing to bet there are a lot of crazies out there that have had that thought. What I am interested to know is the connection between the Oklahoma City bombing and terrorists. Anyone have any thoughts on that subject?

2. I agree that there are a lot of nutballs
and psychos out there who've probably thought that, and there's no way those responsible for security can know about it all.

As far as OK City, terrorists were indeed responsible, but not the kind everyone thinks of when they hear the word terrorist. Anti-government militia and hate and white supremacist groups were responsible for OK City, and they are as much terrorists as Al-Quada and similar groups. We just don't think of them as such because they're home-grown terrorists who look a lot like you and me and the neighbors next door.

Federal agents recently discovered the nest of a white power group that had enough explosives, ammunition, and weapons to take out a small city and with them, who the hell knows, that may have been what they were planning to do.

These people are every bit as dangerous as "regular" terrorists, if not more so because they can easily walk among us undetected and unsuspected. And to this day, I firmly believe that far more people besides Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were responsible for OK City. I believe it was the work of a militia/white power group or groups, and McVeigh and Nichols took the fall.

3. A nutball teenager whose thoughts were broadcast
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 05:56 PM by ET Awful
on television and evaluated in endless investigations that occurred before she took office and of which she should have been aware. It's her job to be aware of such things.

As to Oklahoma City, that was a terrorist act, by definition the people who carried out the bombing were terrorists, the title of "terrorist" is not bestowed upon someone simply by virtue of the fact they are of the Islamic faith.

There are still people like McVeigh in this country who are ready and willing to carry out such attacks. They aren't too hard to find. Look at the examples liberalhistorian gave, then look at the people captured in Texas last year with large amounts of chemical weapons. They aren't muslims.

A terrorist is someone who uses violence or the threat of violence as a means to bring about political or social change through fear or coercion.
