3. I got nothin but mass respect for Cleland but..
I don't think many people know about him or that even exists to tell you the truth. Of course most if not all Dems would know, but others would be like "who's this guy?"

How many people even know that the idea of Homeland Security (NOT the twisted kind we have now) was originally his idea but was shot down by repubs??

5. A good many of the American people probably still don't know who
John Kerry is. We can't let people's ignorance stand in our way of picking good candidates. It would be the Democratic party's job to inform the public who Cleland is.

6. Then see how America like's GOP slime tactics
of this hero. Didn't Mann Coulter hint he wasn't a hero, just clumsy? (re: grenade accident)? Wonder how THAT would sell. My hunch is NASCAR nation would love this guy.

9. Georgia already did react to slime tactics on Max!
He's not a Senator anymore, is he?

The Pubs did worse to him than they did to McCain, and the people responded (at least those in Ga.) by voting for AH Saxby Chambliss! Gees, I would have thought that name alone would have prevented people from voting for him!

25. Wasn't Cleland a victim of the "rob georgia" ballot programming patch?
Is that not one of the recent BBV crimes? So, maybe in a legal election he would not have lost? The question marks are honest, so many GOP crimes to keep straight.

26. I don't know about the BBV. It was Ga. first all electronic
voting and there were quite a few surprises, but it's something that we can't prove. Ga. voters are really weird, and it's believable they could have fallen for the BushCo dirt on Max. The other loss was Roy Barnes and we ended up with the first Pug. Governor in something like 135 years, BUT Roy also eliminated the confederate symbol from the Ga. flag the year before the election and a lot of folks were really pi**ed about that.

That's one of the reasons I've been trying so hard to get a paper trail before November, but Sec. of State simply doesn't want to talk about it!

I couldn't figure out who you meant, but then it was, "Oh, THAT MAnn Coulter!!"

That comment he/she made was tasteless even for him/her.

But think what an interesting twist this would make during VP debate when Cheney tried to start criticizing the Dems on security issues.

7. He's the former Senator from Georgia
who lost his job cause the Republicans smeared this Vietnam veteran who lost 3 limbs in the war as soft on national security.

And to make matters worst he lost to the chickenhawk Chambliss

We got stuck with Bob kerrey who is now besmirching Clinton to freepers.

11. I happen to like the way Bob Kerrey is handling the
questioning while on the 9/11 Committee. If anyone is going to believe this commission is trying to be non-partisan, you have to be tough on BOTH SIDES.

It would serve no purpose to have 5 Dems & 5 Repugs and have a draw in the end.

kerrey is a disgrace. Practically kissed Ashcroft's ass
and was very insulting to Albright, Berger.
That's not "bipartisan" anymore than Zell Miller's attitude is.

27. Did you see the questioning of the CIA guy and the 2 FBI?
I recognize THEY ALL almost gave a pass to Ashcroft. I think that was because they got so many complaints from their "apparent" partisan questioning the week before.

I'm not sure, but I bet Kean had a meeting before Ashcroft appeared and reminded everybody that we want this committee to appear non-partisan, so back off.

I watched all the hearings that were made public, and Kerrey seemed to be tough on everybody.

15. Cleland has a secret weapon
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 05:44 PM by Dems Will Win
Besides being from the South and making Georgia, Florida and North Carolina more viable for Kerry (there's lots of vets in FL), Cleland will be accepted all over America. And he's a pit bull on TV, going after Bush and CHeney.

But Max has a secret weapon to get out the vote. There are 35 million disabled Americans and most of them vote. THis will be the first time a disabled candidate has run in the open (the press hid FDR's disability).

That vote could be influenced by Cleland!

So he may be like Bill Richardson, in that he brings out a national constituency, a minority. I think it's between Cleland and RIchardson. Bill Nelson has little fire but he's third on my list. All the rest are snoozers and Edwards has been deleted from the short list a long time ago.

17. I Love Max - and wasn't he head of the Veterans Administration
under Jimmy Carter (also from GA)? Or was it Clinton? Either way, he's got oodles of experience in politics and I'm still mad he's out of office now.

I think we can rightly blame his defeat to Chambliss on that super "christian" Ralph Reed, head of the GA GOP. I also think it's likely that our voting machines were rigged in this state.

It would be absolutely cool (and poetic justice) if he became VP!!

16. Sounds good to me and...
...I've heard pollsters and poly sci pros say Cleland would have wide appeal to males 40-60 in the South and Mid-West. Kerry/Cleland: Brains, nuts, guts...it'd make the Rep 'sissy boys' look feeble.
I try to remind myself that 'most people' aren't paying attention to the election yet. They will starting during the 'silly' season in August...I think Max and John would look real good to a lot of people.

19. Max Cleland
was not blown up in combat & he did not get a Purple Heart! for those wounds Max Cleland blew himself up when he disobeyed an order and picked up a hand grenade he saw laying on the ground he thought fell off his belt. Which is why he will not be VP or why anyone is even talking about him being VP & no it was not a VC grenade. Other wise he would be Kerry's 1# pick

Your syntax is obviously from another message board, "abbyhoffman". I guess Cleland DESERVED to have his limbs blown off because he disobeyed orders.

24. Shittin' on Max in Georgia is one thing. OMG, how it would
infuriate the people to have these clowns say that two combat vets could not protect the country like two call boys for corporate America!!! Let them pick on Max on anything and see how mean the vets, their spouses, their children and the general public can get. He's perfect. And let's see their subhuman "operatives" try cute pictures and barbs about the "cripple"..........bring it on..........

31. I like Max.
I certainly like him a hell of a lot more than certain others whose names are out there (Bayh? God help us all), but I worry that people see "triple-amputee Vietnam veteran" and think "unbeatable". Cleland's 2002 campaign refutes that by itself.

It'd be a decent ticket, maybe even more.

36. Cleland is on outstanding man: BUT
I would wonder about the visibility amoung 18-25 yr olds. Especially college age.
My friend works for a professor at a local college. In discussing politics and the importance of their place in an election year, the class followed the campaign trail and debates, TV ads and such.

She noted that as the discussions were educational and she was impressed at the involvement and knowledge these 18-22 yr olds had about the candidates etc, she was also reminded of their youth by the remarks that followed the enlightened and sometimes heated discussions.
Most females generally ended the classroom debates with the unanimous statement:
"I'm voting for John Edwards cuz he's a hottie"
Ahhh, the reasoning of youth!

Point being; Edwards gained great visibility among voters who limit themselves to what is on TV. Edwards was on TV a lot.
Aside from all the great attributes we note about Sen Edwards, certain voting groups still call it like they see it..Edwards is a hottie. Some undecideds really will vote based on that alone.
