What could be behind the Bush Administration's decision to censor the photographs of flag-draped coffins returning from Iraq? Could it really be, as the government says, to respect "the privacy of the families?" Or is it to hide the realities of war for political reasons? Or is it to protect the delicate sensitivities of the ruling class as Americans die to build them an empire?

As the argument over this censorship continues, I hope people remember a widely-quoted remark made by the president's mother, Barbara Bush, last year during the build-up of the war - the lying time.

"Why should we hear about body bags and deaths," Barbara Bush said on ABC's "Good Morning America" on March 18, 2003. "Oh, I mean, it's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

8. Not in her case

On many occasions, Barbara Bush has decided to insert herself in the political process. Not only with the beautiful mind quote, either. As I recall, she wished for a rabid bunny to attack Jimmy Carter. She has expressed a wish to kill anyone who picks on her kids. She has debased Democratic opponents of her husband and sons on several occasions.

I won't leave her out of it if she won't stay the hell out of it. I mostly leave Laura Bush alone, because I feel more sorry for her than anything else, although she has recently gone to bat for the chimp. But Babs, well, she's the matriarch, and she's right in the thick of it. I have not a shred of respect for her, and she's fair game for criticism.

bush and the Cabinet were at Camp David post 9/11. This was the scene where they were eating and bush said he loves "comfort food" like homemade chicken noodle soup and sandwiches on freshly baked bread.

Mrs. O'Neill politely asked bush what kind of comfort food he'd grown up on, what was the favorite thing he'd ask his mother to make on a special occasion.
