anyone else watching the Sinclair program replacing Nightline?
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 10:42 PM by codegreen
so far it's pretty strange...
the whole program appears to be about the controversy over their decision.

looks to me like it's deliberately cut and edited to portray their bend on it all, of course... with attempt at appearing fair and balanced, but that looks like a Faux-like veneer to me

definately strange television, tho

7. well, their basically televising the right-wing discussion about it
while sort of offering for rebuttal (when not screaming over it or deliberately televising a 'false' claim that they immediately rectify)

also showing numerous on-the-street clips of people commenting.

right now they are airing news on what is going on right now in Iraq...

talking about 'mission accomplished'...

8. it is changing rapidly... i thought it would all be about the controversy,
but now they are talking about the situation on the ground,

now about pictures of war dead on the internet and in the media...

more people on the street...

16. St.Louis censors Nightline. . . . .

We're getting cartoons!!! King of the Hill, no less. I'm not sure I've ever seen such blatant, Repiggy, neo-fascist bullshit in my entire life. To replace what amounts to a television memorial for those who gave their lives in the service of their country with a cartoon, verges on blasphemy and is at least treason. . .

21. Springfield censored it too!
Showing some crap outdoors at Grand Palace in Branson. I didn't leave it on long enough to see much, but it was totally colorless, literally, real bright light and somebody speechifying.

I was so proud of MO today watching Kerry's speech at Fulton, but now I'm ashamed again!

19. sick... ended by saying 'well, more were lost in 1 day in WW2 than so far'
essentially, that's what they said. they were referring to that 'rehearsal of D-day' that lost 756 troops... just sickening...

the numbers were transparent over a waving flag, so the numbers were animated. totally dismissive.

22. Sinclair "Special Report"
This pseudo news report is so bizarre I'm taping it.

First, they insulted Ted Koppel for a few minutes. The anchor said it was ironic that Koppel would run this piece because Nightline got it's start by reporting on hostages. He also mentioned that insider memos have indicated that Nightline is past it's prime. Finally, he reported that they wanted to get Koppel's opinion, but he was too busy preparing for tonight, however he was not too busy to appear on MSNBC, FoxNews, and "ultra-liberal radio station Air America." (In other words Koppel is a hypocrite who's looking for a publicity stunt)

Sinclair "proved" they weren't biased because they allowed their affiliates to decide whether or not to show the casket photos.

They also claimed that families members said it was in poor taste, so they are respecting them.

I don't have the words to express what I'm seeing. The Republicans basically got a free half-hour commercial in Columbus, OH.

conglomerations, and their prosecution on RICO violations, President Kerry, must, as one of his first acts, sign an Executive Order re-enacting the Fairness Doctrine.

Retribution against the media must become one of our highest priorities. They have nearly destroyed our democracy. They were charged by our Founding Fathers with safeguarding our democracy. The Fourth Estate is now nothing more than an Orwellian propaganda matrix machine, and as such, mass media, as it exists now, must be deconstructed.

Propaganda that brings harm and death, IS NOT PROTECTED BY THE FIRST AMENDMENT!!

25. Riiiiiiight. So, this is how it goes:
Koppel is partisan because he went on Air America Radio. But the fact that he was also on FOXNews and Hannity's radio program means he's... what? Maybe, uh, FAIR?

God, these people... maybe this stunt and all of the media attention it's gotten will wake some moderates up.

that the only commercials were PSAs? That makes a boycott a little more difficult. (Not impossible, mind you -- just more difficult.)
