I wonder if bush has ever read Matthew 5:3-12......?
"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven" (Mat. 5:3-12).

.....i seriously doubt he's ever read it, and if he did, he seems to have forgotten it. especially the part about mercy and pure in heart, and the peacemakers, and the persecuted.

just feeling sort of churchy this morning, even though i'm a godless bastard atheist.

2. I don't think he's read any of it.
He probably has his staff vet it for him.

is what this passage is more popularly known as. It's part of the story of the Sermon on the Mount.

Are there any similar passages of poety in the Koran? Not neccessarily the same subject matter but just the sheer poetry marrying language and thought?

4. It's hard to read that upside down I'll bet!
They should have put pictures of that in Bush's Bible! He must have read the part about taking up the serpent when he picked Dick Cheney for VP twice!

5. The * family Bible
is buried under 10 inches of dust by now and hidden under a pile of comic books and porn - the chimp's real reading material. It only gets taken out and dusted off for inaugurations. I'll bet it's never actually been opened and the chimp has no idea what's in there.

9. Do it your self bible study
...groups like the one that converted Bush from booze to Jesus all have these workbooks to go through, books that call for them to find selected passages and assign chapter and verse numbers, selected passages for the group to discuss.

The Sermon on the Mount is rarely represented. Neither is the admonition to pray in silent and secret, nor is the passage about the whited sepulchre. In fact, Jesus is very poorly represented in these workbooks, which rely heavily on Paul and the OT.

These workbooks come out of places like Bob Jones U and Liberty U, and entirely reflect the views these intolerant and anti-Christian organizations like to promote.

11. Don't forget Matthew 25:31-46
31 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.
32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 Then the King will say to those on his right, "Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."

37 Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?"
40 The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

41 Then he will say to those on his left, "Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me."

44 They also will answer, "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?"
45 He will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me."
46 Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

12. He believes
... that he *IS* a peacemaker, and pure in heart.
So it doesn't matter if he read it, it's a matter of translation.

14. Bush said his favorite Bible story
was in the Book of Kings where the dying King David advises his son Solomon to avenge his enemies.

On Shimei from 1 Kings 9:

"Do not hold him guiltless, you will know what to do to him; you must bring his gray head down with blood to Sheol."

The passages about "turn the other cheek" and "thou shalt not kill" weren't mentioned by Bush as his favorites.
