"Average IQ by State and how they voted in 2000: notice a pattern"

Anyone care to draw any judgments/analysis from these numbers?

I certainly acknowledge IQ numbers are not 100% valid indicators of intelligence, but it is interesting nonetheless...

6. That's funny
I think the other information on that site is more important. Those who believe the * lies, support him. Those who have the true facts, do not.

7. Dammit!
It says Wisconsin is two points dumber than Minnesota.

I knew that the U.P. would end up being a bad influence!

I can't even blame it on the FIB's, since it says they are even smarter than Minnesota. Damn!

13. And its my home...I posted this anyway
there is a huge underclass of uneducated, semi-skilled people here who have never had a decent opportunity to become more. Most of them don't vote, so they are further marginalized.

24. It would only be similar if it claimed IQ was genetic
which it doesn't. IQ makes a difference but you can change it with a good education. I'll bet there is a pretty good correlation between IQ and the education system, as well.

12. How Offensive! They Are Not Idiots!
Maybe just borderline deficient . . . }(

Old Un-PC Standard:

Idiot below 20
Imbecile 20-49
Moron 50-69
Borderline deficiency 70-79

Today the following ranges are in standard use:

Profound mental retardation below 20
Severe mental retardation 20-34
Moderate mental retardation 35-49
Mild mental retardation 50-69
Borderline deficiency 70-79

14. The source data...
The source data are from a book called "IQ and the Wealth of Nations". Based on the reader reviews on Amazon.com, it appears to be a bunch of gobbledy-gook.

For example, is the average IQ of Africa really only 70 as the book says? I doubt it.

Unfortunately, I haven't read it myself. (I'm currently working on four other books at once. Can't fit any more in.)

17. that sounds like good old fashioned racism and ethnocentrism
In the bad old days, IQ tests were also used to claim that African Americans were intellectually inferior to whites--but it was the tests that were culturally determined and biased.

15. Questionable Data
What is the source for IQ scores the book cites? There are various tests that US states use but no general IQ tests nationwide. Therefore, no way to quantify IQ from state to state. Basic statistics.

Also, from some Amazon reviews and looking at the material, there might be some racism involved in national rankings. And how do you come up with an average IQ for some countries that are underdeveloped and barely have functioning governments?

IQ is a questionable concept as it is.

16. "Bush's support is directly proportional to misperceptions of facts."
Forget the IQ bit (as amusing as it is) but the statement "Bush's support is directly proportional to misperceptions of facts." is 100% factual.

The less informed people are the more likely they are to be Bush supporters. We have found no WMDs in Iraq, there never was any link between Iraq and 9/11 or al Qaeda or terrorism in general. Many Bush supporting morans still think otherwise.

Good article for humor value, but my BS detector is pegged.

Reading the accompanying text indicates that its not exactly non partisian.

Nonetheless, its cute and I might use it on some of my dumber republican friend (hmmm maybe its not bs :)

23. Two years ago I scored an 118 I.Q. and an 116 I.Q....
Edited on Thu May-06-04 04:00 AM by Neoplatonist
so I figured the synthesis I.Q. is 117 for me. I'm from New York, so maybe that's not so great considering the average I.Q. is 107 in New York according to that survery. That puts me above average here but not by much--10 or so more.

I always believed that the people in the Gore "blue states" had higher I.Q.s than those in the Bush "red states." Now I have a piece of emperical evidence. LOL. Too funny!
