C-Span - Anybody heard HARKIN talking about tortures he recorded
Edited on Thu May-06-04 01:25 PM by LittleApple81
about in Vietnam and how they tried to deceive and punish him for telling the truth? He had a recording of the Vietnamese talking about the wire cages and what had been done to them. He said the pictures in Iraq are similar to his recording of these tortures in Vietnam and he said if the people who took the pictures or know about the tortures in Iraq can come forward and he personally will protect them.

2. How can anybody be for ANY war?
I don't understand it. All the technology in the world won't make war any more humane. I don't understand why being a pacifist is rarely discussed or respected, when crap like this is the inevitable byproduct of even the most "just" wars.

4. There are times taht wars must be fought
but those are very rare... WW II... that was a just war

Bosnia is the closest to a Just War

We should have gone into Rwanda....

Here is the problem MOST wars are not Just... and this one is not just.

This is a doctrine that though Christian in origin is embraced by things like International Humanitarian Law... the one we are violating

And yes war is horrible, that is why it should NEVER be entered in a moment of rashness... as we did.

3. If he's calling for more photos and documentation, I have a feeling we
will be seeing and knowing more than we even imagine about whats going on. Just bringing this up will open the door for folks who might have been afraid to speak up and who might just now start to throw stuff "over the transom" as Josh Marshall likes to call it when he gets an anonymous tip. I'm glad Harkin offered protection.
