Dean/Graham...the winning combination.
The more I think about it the more I like this combination.

Both Dean & Graham are governors, and both are fairly pragamatic centerists. Graham does have a bit more experience on foreign policy & in national politics, but that wouldnt preculde him from taking the VP slot (look at Cheney and Bush). Then there is the war/national security issue. We can assume Bush is going to run on this, and both Dean and Graham have opposed Bush fairly strongly, compared to some of the other mainstream Dems.

Finally there is ticket balancing...Graham makes the Dean canidacy credible in the South..in the border South, Florida, and states like Arkansas and Lousiana.

If Dean wins the nomination I think Dean/Graham will be the winning ticket.

1. dean grahm?
No slap to DEAN but i bet a million that none of the top tier, Liberman, Kerry, Edwards, will run with DEAN, not that he doesnt have a good message. Its just that the threat of a Landslide is too great. SO my bet is that someone that is Unemployed (either an EX congressman, senator but probably governer will run with him) in fact my prediction is a no brainer.

2. Graham isnt top tier...
...so I think that fits yr scenario.

It would be interesting to see if a Dean asks and folks refuse. Thats going to be an ill omen.

3. Bob Graham
seems to have the greatest disdain for Howard Dean and it has shown on numerous occasion. Graham would ask his supporters to back ANYONE but Dean.

12. Actually I found an article saying THE OPPOSITE!
http://www.abcnews.go.com/sections/politics/US/deangraham_030530.html

The Gov. Club
Two Ex-Governors With Different Philosophies Vie for Democratic Presidential Nomination

Howard Dean and Bob Graham — the two former governors seeking the Democratic presidential nomination — make an unlikely pair.

Dean, a Vermonter, is the race's upstart progressive. Graham, once Florida's governor and now a U.S. senator, is the field's experienced centrist.

Some might assume they would be vocal antagonists toward each other. Not so.

Dean, otherwise generous with barbs for his fellow presidential hopefuls, is quick to point out areas where he and Graham agree: on the war with Iraq, on international priorities, on tax cuts, and on the balance between state and federal responsibilities.

<snip>

Graham's campaign, which has fought the perception that he's running to be vice president, professes to be puzzled by the Dean-Graham talk and turns it around.

"We'd be glad to consider Governor Dean as a vice presidential running mate if he'd would like to be in that mix.," said Jamal Simmons, Graham's spokesman.

6. Graham has NEVER dissed another candidate
and has specifically asked his supporters not to do so.

His campaign objected when Dean said he was the only one in the race who had experience choosing judges, which was not true (Graham as governor appointed a number of judges to the Florida Supreme court, including women and minorities.)

Dean also claimed (like someone in this thread) that Graham was not a top tier candidate.

He ended up apologizing for both of these comments.

11. Additionally
At the May South Carolina "Forum" he said that the goal is to fight Dubya, not one another.

How can you back up your statement that he would ask his supporters to back ANYONE but Dean and does this mean BUSH TOO?

8. Graham is probably retiring from the Senate...
whether he wins the nomination or not. So although he is currently not unemployed, he would be so after January 2005 anyway... it would be a win/win situation for him.

9. landslide?
too bad you are buying into that Dean is a sure loser crap. The only one of our candidates in my mind who is in a danger of losing in a landslide to Bush is maybe Lieberman becuz he is alienating our base by assailing liberals. If he is nominated I fear that the progressive wing will sit on its hands or vote Independent.
