BAGHDAD, Iraq - A U.S. helicopter fired on a wedding party early Wednesday in western Iraq, killing more than 40 people, Iraqi officials said. The U.S. military said it could not confirm the report and was investigating.

Lt. Col Ziyad al-Jbouri, deputy police chief of the city of Ramadi, said between 42 and 45 people died in the attack, which took place about 2:45 a.m. in a remote desert area near the border with Syria and Jordan. He said those killed included 15 children and 10 women.

Dr. Salah al-Ani, who works at a hospital in Ramadi, put the death toll at 45.

Associated Press Television News obtained videotape showing a truck containing bodies of those allegedly killed.

About a dozen bodies, one without a head, could be clearly seen. but it appeared that bodies were piled on top of each other and a clear count was not possible.

1. British commanders have been complaining about
the use of helicopter gunships in urban areas.

Speaking from his base in southern Iraq, the officer said: "My view and the view of the British chain of command is that the Americans' use of violence is not proportionate and is over-responsive to the threat they are facing. They don't see the Iraqi people the way we see them. They view them as untermenschen. They are not concerned about the Iraqi loss of life in the way the British are. Their attitude towards the Iraqis is tragic, it's awful.

The officer explained that, under British military rules of war, British troops would never be given clearance to carry out attacks similar to those being conducted by the US military, in which helicopter gunships have been used to fire on targets in urban areas.

in their article, they put the death toll at 20, talk about it (oh darn) for a paragraph or two, and then change the subject for the rest of the article.

Quite frankly, if I were me, which I am, and a foreign power did that to my family, children, and village, I wouldn't have a lot left to live for other than revenge. We are absolutely responsible for the hatred that is directed towards us, and not doing anything to change the causes.

I now certainly expect the news/military to report that there was celebratory small arms fire which confused our fighters and caused them to wipe out the wedding party -- so it's their fault. Don't you feel better now? Now where have I heard that before? ...

3. Yes, if it were my family, I would not rest until I found vengeance
even if I had to die to do it. I think most human beings would feel the same way.

Thanks, George Bush!

4. When we we ALL learn that
violence just breads more violence. Vengence makes the problem worse in the long run.
