Tighten your seat belt, Karl Rove!!!
Your ride is about to begin! In this weekend's New York Times Book Review (page 9) John Dean does a wonderful review of Joseph Wilson's "The Politics of Truth." Dean notes that the incident involving the White House "leaking" the identity of Wilson's CIA agent wife is "now the subject of a federal grand jury investigation." DUers watching MSNBC today may have seen small clips reporting on one famous reporter trying to avoid going before the grand jury, because he had not been among those contacted by the White House. This may be the biggest scandal of the summer, and it's beginning to pick up steam now. Dean ends his article by telling a story of Wilson appearing on the MSNBC program Countdown; Keith Olberman showed him & the audience three e-mails of "talking points" from the White House, in an attempt to discredit Wilson. Dean asks if the Bush White House folks ever learn? "Apparently not," he writes. "If they have read (Wilson's book), they should understand they've picked a fight with the wrong guy."

3. It was not MSNBC. It was Olbermann. He is rather different from most
of the talking heads.

I think the reporter might be Tim Russert. I pretty sure I heard Tom Brokaw say something about Tim Russert being subpoen'd before the grand jury and they were fighting it because he was not one of the people called. I THINK that's what I heard. If someone else knows something, correct me please.

edited to say that it could have be Olberman who said it...gee I don't know :)

I hope they take this as far as it should go. With someone high up getting prison time.

7. Yes. It's Tim Russert.
Tim says that he was not one of the reporters the White House contacted. I'm hoping that this draws some attention to the story. However, I hope it doesn't become a distraction. It would seem if TR wasn't one of those contacted, he'd have no problem going before the grand jury ..... unless he is concerned about being asked what he has heard from others since then. But the grand jury process is making some head-way. And though people recognize these people as vicious bullies who will attack a man's wife, I don't think that they are quite as intimidating as they were a year ago.

8. This will only be a scandal if their are indictments.
And if someone as high up as Scooter Libby are indicted, as hes Cheneys right hand man.

9. Actually, there is another option.
Wilson and his wife have the right to go to civil court for damages. In that case, a great deal that is now private will become public. I am hoping that Rove & perhaps even Cheney are indicted; however, the publicity that a civil case can bring would certainly rate as exposing a scandal, and will hurt the republican cause come November.
