Interesting group. Peter Corroon is Dean's cousin.
Peter Corroon for Salt Lake County, Utah Mayor. Encouraged by his cousin - Howard Dean - Peter is running for county mayor. As a fiscally responsible Democrat he is campaigning against an incumbent who runs the county like a "mini-Enron." Governor Dean will be campaigning with him Memorial Day weekend. www.votecorroon.com

Governor Howard Dean and Democracy for America Endorse Christine Cegelis for U.S. Congress

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL — Christine Cegelis (pronounced SEG-alice), Democratic candidate for the 6th Congressional District, has been endorsed by Gov. Howard Dean, honorary chair and founder of Democracy for America (www.democracyforamerica.com). Christine Cegelis is part of the “Dean Dozen,” a select group of socially progressive, fiscally responsible candidates that represent the spirit of grassroots democracy in this country.

On behalf of the candidates, Democracy for America has reached out to their supporters to inform them that Cegelis is part of the “Dean Dozen.” Many of these enthusiastic supporters have already expressed interest in financially supporting and volunteering for candidates Dean endorses.

“I am proud to be recognized by Howard Dean and Democracy for America,” announced Cegelis. “Their stature and national recognition just adds more credibility and viability to the local momentum my campaign has gained to be elected to the United States Congress.”

2. Christine is terrific!
My DFA chapter in Evanston is partnering with the chapter her district to help her win! (We're lucky enough to have Jan Schakowsky as our rep and she always gets over 80% of our vote.)

People should be thankful Dean is doing this. It gets attention called to grassroots candidates, even at local levels. This is good thing for everyone.

Dean and Potter.

Gov. Howard Dean and Democracy for America Endorses David Van Os for Texas Supreme Court

San Antonio, Texas—David Van Os, Democratic candidate for the Texas Supreme Court, has been endorsed by Gov. Howard Dean, honorary chair and founder of Democracy for America (www.democracyforamerica.com). Van Os is part of the “Dean Dozen,” a select group of socially progressive, fiscally responsible candidates that represent the spirit of grassroots democracy in this country.

(snip)

“It is a great honor to receive the endorsement of Governor Howard Dean" said Van Os. "Governor Dean represents the voice of millions of ordinary Americans and Texans who want to take their government back from the special interests in every branch and at every level of government. This endorsement is a huge boost to my campaign to restore the courts of Texas to the ownership of the people of Texas."

(snip)

Two weeks ago another group of Dean Dozen candidates was announced. Within hours, candidates running for all levels of government saw the impact of this powerful endorsement: Rob MacKenna, candidate for supervisor of elections in Hillsborough County, Fla had 22,840 visits to his Web site the Friday after the endorsement, up from a daily average of 420. Jeff Smith, candidate for US House from Missouri, saw a 600% increase in web traffic in the first 24 hours after the endorsement and has received national media interest in his 10-way primary to fill the vacant seat of Rep. Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.). This intense Web traffic led to increased donations and volunteer support.

(snip)

Today there is not a single Democrat among the nine Justices on the Texas Supreme Court. The all-Republican Court has tilted the scales of justice against working people. David Van Os is a practicing attorney of 27 years experience who has built a distinguished record as an advocate of justice for working people. He is a people’s lawyer who will be a people’s judge on a Court that is badly in need of a voice for the people.

7. I like Richard Morrison's attitude. He really has personality.
He has been on Air America twice, and he is great. We donated to him a couple of times already, as that is so urgent. We gotta get rid of the bug man.

10. He's great in person too!
Down-to-earth, tell-it-like-it-is, affable, etc. Really good man. I know it's David vs Goliath, but those unfavorable stats for DeLay are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful! I think we could just pull the upset of the century!

11. This is huge!!!
My fellow Texans here on DU know how the TX State Supreme Court has been overthrown by the BFEE influence and how it has been seeping into the US Federal Courts (Patricia Owens anyone?) and the Federal AG's office (Miguel Estrada, Alberto Gonzales).

Good Lord, if we can get Van Os (Yes! one of the real rebels who took a stand) on the TX Supreme Court we would be making a huge inroad.

Way to go Governor Dean!!!

8. DEAN JUST ROCKS
Edited on Wed May-26-04 10:25 PM by Moonbeam_Starlight
Seriously. I was/am a Deaniac (but am now supporting Kerry whole-heartedly for President).

So I loved him from way back.

But you know what? When he lost in the primaries and then started Democracy for America, he proved something to me: it really WASN'T all about him. He said that over and over in stump speeches all over the country. But he proved it when he started doing this. He is true to his word and he isn't about himself.

I heart Howard Dean. And always will. He is a man of integrity.

Edited to add I think he should be Secretary of Health and Human Services in Kerry's cabinet. Definitely. And he can keep Democracy for America going, because it's going to keep on keepin' on regardless. I simply cannot say enough about him. I've met him, twice. I was one of the original Texas Rangers group who flew to Iowa in September to canvass for him.

9. A big AMEN to that!!!
I couldn't agree more! I haven't had time to attend the DFA meetings since he dropped out, because I now have a class that night, but he inspired me to get involved for the first time, and he is why I am volunteering for Morrison, and signed up to do the same for Van Os. Because I believe it wasn't "about him," I feel that focusing my energy on the local level is as much an honor to his efforts as continuing in DFA would be.

12. My admiration grows in leaps and bounds....
...and I didn't even know that is possible. I am an ardent supporter of Dean from way back, but I gotta tell you, my esteem for him and what he has done and been about since AFTER the primaries...well....there just aren't words for it.

The first time I saw him speak on behalf of Kerry, it was so genuine and real - no phoney "we all gotta get along for the sake of the party" sentiment - it was obvious he REALLY MEANT it and wanted us supporters to mean it too (when we came around). To that end, he respected us greatly. He let us take the time we needed, he trusted our judgement and let us come into our own acceptance of Kerry. He never pushed, he knew that wouldn't be good for us or Kerry.

Meanwhile he has truly been out there busting his ass for his country at the most BASIC and THANKLESS (read: non-gloryifying) levels - the real hard work and remaking this political beast from the very ground up. He is a long-term visionary.

While I think he would excel as HHS in Kerry's cabinet, I'm really torn between that position and Chairman of the DNC - could anyone possibly imagine a better chairman of the party?

Howard Dean, you are one hell of an American. I tip my hat to you. You are a bigger person than me, and I'm only glad to have recognized it in you early on.

13. Samara Barend, NY, posts directly to the DFA blog.
Hello Bloggers!

I just wanted to take a moment to voice a loud and clear Thank You! to Governor Dean and to each and every one of you. I am honored to be one of the Dean Dozen. The legacy of Democracy for America will resonate for years to come. It is interest, energy, and enthusiasm such as yours that will change the face of American politics. I have been greatly heartened by the hard work and support of the local DFA organization here in upstate New York. Their passion is an inspiration to me and I promise to fight hard to make them proud.

We have a real opportunity in NY’s 29th congressional district. The seat has been held by Amo Houghton, a moderate Republican for many years. The folks on the other side of the aisle that are running to succeed him would cast aside the independent spirit of the district in favor of conservative ideology and a strict adherence to the policies of George W. Bush. We can do better.

My opponents will be well-funded by special interest groups who are determined to purchase influence in Washington and stock Congress with their Republican allies. It’s a formidable challenge, but together we will be up to the task. I appreciate all your support and kind words, and I’d like to say a special thank you to the dfaROCHESTER group. We truly do have the power to take back our country.

In solidarity,
Sam
