If Dean is the "DLC Poster Boy",
why is the DLC trying to politically assasinate him?

1. Well it certainly isn't Dean's pro-DLC economic policies
Maybe they just think he will lose? John Forbes-Kerry is just as pro-DLC as Dean is, but his veteran status makes him more of a winner. Since they are both wealthy aristocrats, they at least need something that will make them appeal to the average person.

So I don't think he is their poster boy.

They keep calling him the "DLC Poster Boy" while supporting the real DLC candidate at the same time.

6. How is Dean different from the DLC exactly?
I have not heard Dean propose a single economic or social policy that the DLC doesn't promote. Did I miss one?

Evan Bayh comes out and scolds liberal thinking and it turns out he's one of Dean's best buddies whose wife, Susan Bayh acts as Dean's escort/First Lady.

36. ha ha, remember I'm just an ass
My opinions are well known. I like Kucinich the best, and my "establishment" candidate is Gephardt. Lieberman? Everyone knows he can't win the primary. My only question is whether the Dean people actually believe the hype, or whether they just lie because they get paid. Time will tell.

7. Both are veterans politically and Governers are more likely to win
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 08:23 PM by Classical_Liberal
than Senators. It is more that the dlc was pro iraq war and Dean was against the iraq war. The DLC is an ideology, not a strategy for winning, which brings us to the biggest reason they hate Dean. He is violating all the dlc doctrine on how to win elections and exposing their ideology by exposing how wrong that dogma was. They said candidates who were against the Iraq war couldn't raise money, and he is raising more than any of the other candidates. They said he couldn't attract independents and he is attracting more independents than any of the other candidates. When he wins it will be a very humiliating defeat for the DLC gurus. They will join the Democrats for Bush campaign just to retain their guru image. They already are. Has anyone seen hardball in the last few days, with Barnicle and all the Democrats for Bush testemonials, he is dredging up?

9. Here's why....
Vito Corleone: We've known each other many years, but this is the first time you came to me for counsel, for help. I can't remember the last time that you invited me to your house for a cup of coffee, even though my wife is godmother to your only child. But let's be frank here: you never wanted my friendship. And uh, you were afraid to be in my debt.

Change 'Vito Corleone' to 'Al From' and you've got it.

10. You know he was DLC while governor. Why deny it?
He is a compromising centrist who is playing the part of fighting populist since the antiwar movement grew.

You are more than welcome to prove he was a fighting populist as governor. I'll listen.

"You know he was DLC while governor. Why deny it?"

I am not denying anything.

This is like pointing out the fact that Kucinich was pro-life for twenty years until he decided to run for president.

The fact that Dean was or wasn't DLC in the past is NOT a make or break issue for me. People change their minds. Howard Dean knows what this country needs NOW and is willing to do it.

BTW - Gore and Gephardt were Pro-Life as well. Does that disqualify them as candidates?

Hahah...Dean is changing his mind and his rhetoric to rope in more $$$$$.

The DLC is helping him more than hurting him, and now Dean is bringing along thousands of liberal supporters who now see compromising centrism as "pragmatism" and a solid virtue. Hahahah.

He didn't. Dean would have voted against the resolution, and we wouldn't have to deal with the awful concequences of this imperialist venture. Dean is number one because of it.

Dean is a compromising centrist. How many compromising centrists voted against the resolution?

You people project qualities on Dean that were nonexistent before he started campaigning as a populist.

Why didn't he ever use the "Democratic wing of the Democratic party" line ever BEFORE 2003?

38. Because Vermont required something different than the Federal Gov.
in 2004.

Say what you will but Dean left Vermont in great shape. He policies were perfect and he succeeded in threading the needle between a very left wing citizenry and the local business establishment.

In 2004, Dean is advocating policies that he believes the Federal Government needs. The whole of the United States requires different policies than Vermont.

Howard Dean is the ONLY candidate who has the balls to advocate these policies.

11. Dean disses them! And they disagree on one very HOT issue.
The War! Plan and simple people. Dean baths in the fact he is a Centrists and praises his Vermont workings and said he would be the president the same way (not exciting this liberal).

But one thing that Dean does agree with is "no war" and that is a very hot and sensitive subject which the DLC believes very much will lose him any chance of beating Bush. I disagree with that but the writings on the wall why the DLC and Dean don't get along anymore. Dean may be more conservative than Regean but as long as he calls the war unjust then the DLC will shun him for the bid.

I like Dean, but he is waaaay to conservative for me. I do enjoy his campaign though, and I hope if he does get in office he will run the country the way he is telling us NOW, and not what he did in Vermont.

15. HMMMMM...
What about the socialized health care system implamented in Vermont while Dean was governor.

What about he stance on the repeal of the Bush tax cut.

Why is Lieberman attacking Dean on his fiscal policies.

It just so happens that Federal policy might need something different than what Vermont required at the time.

31. 91% of the population HAD healthcare when Dean took office.
The CHIPS bill crafted by Kennedy and Kerry helped expand it further.

Please point out the details in Dean's socialized health care system that you claim he implemented.

In 11 years, the man you say has a plan couldn't cover all the citizens with a progressive Democratic legislature, because he refused to take that battle on, even during the booming Clinton economy.

28. To qualify that. He is not anti-war like Jimmy Carter.
He has been very specific in saying he supported the war in Afghanistan to get the terrorists who perpetrated the 9-11 massacre. He is against this pre-emptive strike in Iraq with the crappy evidence offered and any other pre-emptive war perpetrated in this manner. I am paraphrasing here, but he has made enough speeches and done enough interviews that it shouldn't be hard to find if you want proof. He is very consistent in what he says. No bullshit here.
