"These Dogs Don't Hunt" Kudos to Jen6 and SoCalDem. Cartoon.
This was created by these two folks at DU last year. It has made the rounds, and is posted on several sites. It was reposted today, but buried in another thread. It deserves to be posted on its own merits.
I never noticed last year that Bush is petting the head of the FOX dog. Nor did I notice that the NPR doggies is hiding behind the chair, unsure of its role....as it does not get first pick of the WH spin.
A powerful cartoon.

The FOX dog is overweight and the NPR dog is skinny. And the Press Corps is gazing at him with adoration.

14. They are all relaxed in the presence
of their master. They know they'll be well fed and cared for (deregulation, tax breaks, etc.) as long as they lounge dutifully at their master's feet, licking his hand from time to time. Their only quarry is the occational celebrity or outspoken "wackadoo" democrat. Otherwise, they simply await their daily heaping bowls full of tasty Spin, and relax with full, warm bellies.

Edited on Tue Jun-01-04 12:55 AM by SideshowScott
DUHHHH Im a dope!
I thought it was a professoinal cartoonist that did that and its been passed around the web.
That has to be the best political cartoon that ive seen all year and I consider myself a fan of the political cartoons.
The question is why havent they done more!?!?!
On Edit: Hopefully more that show what a bunch of bought and paid for crooks the press has become..Its really sad that one of the things that america has prided itself on was our free press..Now its nothing more than a joke

26. Actually, I am a professional Illustrator / Animator
going on 20 years now. Though before collaborating with SoCalDem on this 'toon, the last political cartoon I had done was when I was in high school-during the Reagan era, lol! I won a regional political cartoonist award for that one.:-)

If you've seen movies like "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin", then you've seen my work before. I've worked for the mouse for the past 15 years, though oddly enough, I've never liked drawing cartoons (the "These dogs don't hunt" drawing was meant to seem more "New Yorker" in style than Disney). My personal work has always been more realistic (I'm a big fan of N.C. Wyeth, Howard Pyle, J.C. Lyendecker, etc.) Like this illustration for a children's book that I'm working on:

I guess I haven't done more political cartoons for the same reason that I haven't finished my book; I'm fried from drawing by the end of the day. Making a living is much tougher now than it was during the Clinton era; the corporations want a lot more work for a lot less money. :-(

Im sorry but I caught the Disney Influence in your work..When you said you worked for Disney I was like " I knew it!" But thats not a bad thing at all Jen..In your painting i could tell the Wyeth infulence in your painting..Are you a fan of Norman Rockwell just wondering.
You have amazing talent Jen id deffanlty like to see more of your work

54. Thanks SideshowScott!
No, not a real fan of Rockwell's, but we share an admiration for J.C. Leyendecker (a big influence on Rockwell's work). I did have dinner once with Rockwell's nephew at the National cartoonist society awards though, lol!(He's also an artist, and was taught by his uncle!)

Yeah, it's tough to ditch the Disney look after so many years with the company. I often wonder what my illustration would look like without it. This little Meerkat had to be repainted several years after "The Lion king" came out, because it looked even more like Timon when I first painted it, just two years after the film.(I used the same live model that my friend Mike Surrey used when animating Timon; a little female meerkat of the same name that belonged to a mutual friend of ours).

I'm amazed at the number of people, no matter what educational level, who are far more affected by a cartoon like this than by a superb column on the same topic by someone like Paul Krugman.

I've bookmarked. Jen and So-Cal, have you thought about submitting this somewhere? In the old days it would have been a great New Yorker cartoon, but sadly given the topic I guess they might not appreciate it.

Still, the climate is getting ripe for someone to maybe give you guys some $$$$'s for this.

(Just my mercenary heart thinking of you guys) :toast:
