My God, the Hopeless Obscenity of this Presidential Election..........
A half a billion dollars will be spent on this presidential election. 99% of it will be spent on a handful of people within a handful of districts within a handful of states. Do you not see the cancer?? Can you not smell the decaying rot of the dead flesh of democracy?

The half billion will be spent on ads and visits to these handful of lucky, lucky Americans. They will be able to see and hear why candidate X is the savior of America and why candidate Z is a disaster for this nation. THAT is called democracy. Unfortunately, most of those chosen dimwits will do nothing but complain that they are sooo sick of this yapping (guaranteed because it's the predictable news story every campaign). The rest of this nation is left to rot in darkness. Therefore, what the hell do expect of places like a Texas, or Georgia, or Alabama, etc.?? For all practical purposes, they are living in a Nazi or Soviet world. They and the generations upon generations that they spawn will only hear the voice of republicans and will pass the legend along to their children. They will never hear the "other side" of democracy.

A half a billion and growing----and all we get for that unholy amount of money is the seeds of the death of this democracy. No wonder that a few districts in all of the US of A determine our Congress and now, our Presidency. For Christ's sake, folks, most of this nation is living in an information blackout zone. A democracy cannot survive in this climate. This country has become a joke. Good luck, Iraqis. Maybe true democracy can come to your land because it is gone in this one.

1. Think of how much good that would do....
to help people without medical insurance.

3. Yes. Kerry needs to personally campaign in every county of every state
And of course he must cover every city within every county. And meet every person in every city.

Everyone knows that is the only way to campaign. Otherwise, we are actually living in Nazi Germany.

4. Honey--you just bought the goddamn farm
Of course the reason they are ONLY spending the bucks in these areas is to get their goddamn fucking hides into the White House. That's the intelligent way to play the game and they can do nothing else--they would be goddamn fucking stupid to spend their money all over the place--I fully understand that. My point---obviously over a lot of heads here---is that where we have gone in these campaigns makes it dead certain where we are going in the next zillion years. There can be no change where there is no goddamn education, baby. And we are turning as both repukes and dems off most of this country to let it stew in it's stinking ignorance. There isn't enough money to enlighten the people......GET IT??? And since there isn't don't expect shit in the future. Most of this country is in the clutches of the repukes (electoral map). You can't break that in this "tv" society if you can't reach it. So, like I said, we basically are like living in any one-sided propaganda regime. It's only if there is ever any legislation passed where we have televised debates for months between the candidates made mandatory coverage by all networks where we can bring true democracy back. The rest is nothing but a goddamn clown act to see who can trick enough backwater yahoos into drinking the Kool-Aid.

5. I agree. We need more TVs.
I'm guesing that every single person in this country doesn't have a TV. Mabye 2 or 3 per family, but not enough for everyone.

Then, as you suggest, we have the government control the broadcasting. Wait a minute - it already does!! AAAAA! The Evil Nazi media!

Now I know where "American Idol" came from. Bastards.

7. all that money
and they forgot how to use a bus or train. How did democracy survive before TV? Wait, I just answered my own question.

6. A half a billion dollars is where the Media comes in
Any wonder the Media is the way they are? They do know where their bread is buttered. The closer they can make the "horse race" the more money they will receive. We need to push for public financing of elections and demand the networks give up a little airtime that we as citizens give to them dirt cheap. Obscenity is the perfect description.

8. Go hide in a hole, then.

Better yet, move to a small town in Georgia or
Texas and educate one person at a time.

Otherwise, the cynicism and the fatalism here is
quite heartbreaking. And irritating, because there
are a hell of a lot of good people who are working
their *sses off in this democracy, and you just insulted
every single goddamn one of them.
