2. so I guess they have to go through this again in November
It does say something though when you had Laura Bush campaigning for the Repug... and they still lost

3. Oh, hell yeh!!
:bounce:

The latest reported results; it's still a bit of a nailbiter, with a <3,000 vote margin, but it looks like it's going to hold.

00:01:05

765 of 798 precincts reporting

Herseth: 124014
Diedrich: 121066

7. This is scary that it is so close
There was supposedly a 10 point lead for Stephanie and she is going to end up with a 3000 vote margin. Something seems terribly wrong, like a set up for Nov. Call me paranoid.

9. that's pretty common here.
Johnson won by about 500 votes. East River is Democrat...West River is Rethuclican.

10. Tim Johnson calling some Republicans "the Taliban"
Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 12:35 AM by JI7
might have affected the votes of some since south dakota is mostly republican. just days before the election he said something about how the taliban wing of the republican party will be surprised to find a woman is representing the state or something like that. i can understand him, but since sd is mostly republican he should have been more careful. he refused to apologize and later said something about being sorry if he offended anyone. herseth had no comment on what johnson said.

but south dakota is also very republican so it wouldn't be surprising if many decided to vote republican in the end anyways. the tim johnson race was close and i believe tom daschle's elections have been close also.

11. dont worry about it... herseth really was only ahead in the beginning...
she always had the advantage, but after larry deidrech started campaigning a bit... the numbers really evened out, and keep in mind that this state is 70 % republican.

8. According to DailyKos, the opposite is true
They are saying that most of the outstanding precincts are in heavily Democratic areas, so Herseth's margin ought to grow, not shrink.
