Newsweek on Bush: "Another Comeback Kid?"
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5114326/site/newsweek/site/newsweek/

"George W. Bush may not be faring as well in the polls as he’d like. But a lot can go right for him in the next five months"

THE ECONOMY
"What a difference a year makes," says a grinning John Snow. "I remember a year ago at this time when the talk was of deflation. Remember that?" The Treasury secretary can afford to enjoy himself with the memories of dark days past. Citing "three quarters of the strongest GDP growth in 20 years," Snow looks and sounds visibly relieved at the economic turnaround. "The jobs creation process has really hit its stride," he told reporters. Commerce Secretary Don Evans, the president’s old buddy, was even more bubbly as he sat beside Snow inside the Treasury last week. "I spent about 30 years of my life in the private sector and I don’t think I have ever seen an economy any stronger than it is today," he said.

IRAQ
Yes, Iraq. However bad it’s been, a new face and a new government helps shift the focus (and the responsibility) away from the Bush administration. Iraqis are protesting about a lack of jobs? Go talk to the new Iraqi government. There’s not enough power to cool the air this summer? Speak to the new energy minister. Iraqis don’t like the presence of Coalition troops in Iraq? We’re only there to help the new Iraqi government.

JOHN KERRY
"Kerry has been amazingly consistent in the course of last year: more allies, more troops, more internationalization, a clear plan for the post-Saddam period," says Sandy Berger, Clinton’s national security adviser, who is now a senior adviser to Kerry. "In the last month or so, the administration has been drifting in that direction." That may be true in foreign policy terms. But in domestic politics, you don’t get much credit for being first with a good idea.

1. They won't be pumping this guy up so much if he gets elected.
Bush has already more than ruined Reagan's GOP legacy with his extremist approach. If Bush stays in there he'll destroy the conservative movement as we know it.

He's the GOP version of the Nazi's Hitler. His insanity is destroying the party.

2. Propaganda bullshit
The next 5 months will bring more scandals to the Bush Occupation, among them the findings of the 9/11 Commission, Cheney being investigated for his ties with Halliburton and more books, including Larry Flint's, which will reveal who the abortion girl is, and Sharon Bush's book, which will destroy what's left of The Bush Crime Family's reputation.

And did they forget the release of Fahrenheit 911?

3. What is John Snow smoking?
The best economy of the past 30 years? It ain't as good now as it was in the '90s, or even the '80s. Also, this article misses a fundamental political truth: Once people sour on you in the last year of your term, it's almost impossible to win back their support. If people don't feel good about the economy now, it's too late for Bush. I predict Bush's approval will be no better than it is today come November and may even be worse.

10. The economy is a disaster
high unemployment, high paying jobs being replaced by minimum wage jobs, massive outsourcing, inflation, lowest housing sales in ten years, gas at all time highs, $4 a gallon milk, insurance and healthcare costs up 40%, record federal deficits...we're well on our way to becoming a third world Nation!

5. I am sick and tired of everyone in the media trying to sell this shit.
Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 10:29 AM by coloradodem2004
A lot could go wrong for Bush in the next few months. Why do people insist that the economy is strong when many people are still out of work? All of the private sector jobs are low-end. Stop this fucking spin. The media is a piece of shit.

Oh, did I forget to mention that Bush has been responsible for more deaths than any president since Nixon?

If there is anything you want to add, feel free.

11. Farenheight911

We are such a reactionary country, I'm not sure what will happen if Moore's movie opens and makes big time money and gets a ton of publicity. I know how I will react to the movie, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it lights a fire under the backsides of "anybody but Kerry" voters. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to see the movie, but I'm always wary of how the American public will react to major events, which I'm assuming the release of Moore's movie will be.

Bush has f'd up so many things, I know that it is truly mind-boggling to think anyone would vote for him. But, remember, they will be voting against Kerry, or any Democrat. They don't care about the nightmarish mess Bush has made of our country and the world. He's a Republican, so they'll vote for him.

The swing voters are the delicate situation here. What's going to get to them? What's going to make them angry, fed up, want to get up off their couch and vote? Let's hope that enough conservative Republicans turn on Bush to make that big difference we might need. Because, I'm not sure what the supposedly 10 to 20 per cent of undecided voters will be affected by come November.
