I didn't know that Dopehead Rush's radio show is heard by the troops daily

1. Yep, and Wolf just lied about Rushbo's ratings.
Air America is already ahead of Rush in the ratings.

4. Who is Tom Foreman?
And who is this reporter Tom Foreman?

He repeated at least three times that this was a "tempest in a teapot".

I guess it's okay for the military overseas to just hear one voice, one demented side on political issues.

Sen. Harkin is correct. There needs to be balance. In fact, I think that the military should take Slimebough off completely until we know for a fact that he is drug-free and not guilty of drug trafficking ... You know, zero tolerance.

5. This was posted on DU last week. I had never heard of it
before then either. I hope Harkin stays on top of it. It's disgusting that the troops are stuck over there listening to Rushbag's propaganda.

10. But they don't have to listen...my husband never does when deployed
Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 05:04 PM by Solly Mack
he watches CNN international when deployed..and whatever local station he can. As for radio...he's too busy listening to the CD's he takes along to bother. Besides, my husband depises Rush.

He went an entire year in Iraq without listening to Rush once. If he can, others can as well. The venue might not offer a choice (which is beyond wrong and should be corrected) but the choice to listen (or not) still remains.

Some troops choose to listen to Rush..and some don't.

I marvel at the stupidity of those who do and am made glad by those who don't.

Yes, they should be given a choice in radio material...but they should also exercise their choice not to listen to the propaganda of Rush. If a soldier doesn't understand that "news" is made up of varying viewpoints, then perhaps said soldier is too stupid to grasp anything other than Rush.

Perhaps because I live around soldiers is why I don't give them a pass for the ignorance I encounter....

I've complained, as has my husband, over the lack of balanced news reporting during a deployment. We get the same old bullshit answer..."troop morale affected by negative view points"

So I counter by sending newspapers, articles from DU ,and all news magazines I can to my husband, so he can share ..

He also counters by creating CD's with anti-war themes, anti-war speeches, and speeches by liberals...which he plays over and over again. Often to captive audiences...as he does out-rank his team...who must listen or try their damnedest to tune it out.

12. I signed the petition and I agree with what you are saying...
To me it's not that I want El Drugbo removed, but the variety of sources that are available. If a soldier chooses to listen to him, that's ok by me as long as there are other choices available.

Not only are we paying for his hate-mongering, drug-addled propaganda, he is spewing his filth about how liberals hate America and don't support the troops - that bothers me greatly.

13. CNN also reported that NPR is heard overseas also.
But surely you can't compare NPR to the Rush Show.

15. 11-12 years ago, AFN refused to carry it
and the military Repugs claimed that it was a conspiracy because Rush ragged on Clinton all the time. The military push to get his show on was huge, and Congress responded by putting it on.

Now think about this: what are the odds that Bush's administration would let Air America on AFN?

Hypocritical fucks.
