Air America is broadcasting Noam Chomsky tomorrow?
I'm listening to Majority Report on WLIB 1190 AM in NYC. They just said they are going to broadcast Noam Chomsky tomorrow? I thought he was pretty much banned from radio and TV in the US? Wow, I'm impressed.

Who is paying for Air America anyway? It seems the US Army ran lots of "community service" commercials in the crucial early days? Interesting times.

1. WooHoo Chomsky for Secretary of State!
I saw him on C-Span a while back. Its mostly the corporate media that shy away from him.

2. Why has he been banned?
Did he say something anti-Bush that got him into trouble with the mainstream press?

5. what HASN'T he said to get him in trouble?
Listen, I'm 35 and the FIRST time I heard about him (I wasn't politically involved earlier) was after 9/11 he had a short book about letters from friends/associates around the world about 9/11. Essentially, he and his cohorts focused on how it was about the US reaping the whirlwind.

I didn't like it at the time because I was caught up the post 9/11 trauma...but read in the space of time...I can see why he said the things he said.

He is no friend of the US establishment including EITHER major political party or the corporate-fascist powers that be. He tells it like it is based on the premise that we are all one world and the US has consistently used military/political power to advance our interests (including us silently consenting people within) while destroying the lives of millions of unfortunates around the world.

4. I downloaded a Noam Chomsky speech (MIT, Post 9-11 world)
I wasn't that impressed.

He came across as VERY condecending, and certainly put forth the image of a "Liberal Elitist".

He also seemed to be a bit extreme (even for me) with his "Americans are the real terrorists" notion.

That might have something to do with his lack of access to media.

6. "Americans are the real terrorists"
"Americans are the real terrorists"

I think he's pretty dead on regarding this point. Not to downplay what other terrorist groups are doing in the world, those are certainly terrorist atrocities, however he is making the point that we must examine our own actions as well. The American government has certainly not been a saint, and if you have even the most basic understanding of US history, I think that is readily apparent. Regardless of democratic or republican administration.

7. he was on charlie rose
not all that long ago, so i don't think he's "banned." charlie kept cutting him off, which was annoying. assuredly he'll have more of a chance to speak on the majority report.

8. unfortunately, those ads are 'public service' spots
they get no money for those. The US gov't. has a very clever agency called the US Ad Council which produces professional TV, radio, print, and internet spots for use as filler.

The reason AAR runs these is to get everyone (listeners, advertisers, and themselves) accustomed to regular commercial interruptions.

By running these ads (which are more or less professionally produced) it sets the format for incorporating paying ads.

9. If Chomsky is on Charlie Rose, I don't think he is banned :-)

But leftist columnists, particularly those who have utter contempt for the entire system of government America employs, will not be popular as pundits on mainstream news shows.

edit: He has been on BookTV a few times, I believe--and he recently accepted an award from the UN in a televised event, if I remember.
