1. I'm all for it.
The sooner Canada invades the US and brings us democracy,
the better.

2. Then we will have to put another 100 billion into our military
And if the liberals only want to put in another 99 billion then they are just weak on defense!

I know this sounds condescending, but in all seriousness, why does Canada even need a military, especially a billion dollars more worth?

8. In my opinion - not a billion - but we need something
I mean our resources are poor, and even though it's a conservative argument, we need to establish our ownership of the North a little ore...unless you want the next state to be Baffin Island.

4. Canada has problems with power projection
Remember when a lot of their armor was held hostage for failure to pay the shipping bill. One of the things that make the US able to impose its will overseas is the vast sealift/airlift capacity of the armed forces. The Bob Hope class roll-on/off ships are engineering marvels. Many nations are willing to spend to have world class soldiers (Canada certainly does) and certain equipment. But if Canada got in a shooting war with say Chile, Canada would have a hard time invading Chile w/o renting a lot of ships. Or getting the US to move it's armed forces.

Now, Canada could quite reasonably say that they have no interest in being able to project power overseas. But being able to do so means not having to wage war on one's own soil.

6. "being able to do so means not having to wage war on one's own soil"
Well, the only times that's happened have been when we've needed to beat back American invasions. And given our geography, that's the only scenario that's likely. So, I say, better we not project power abroad, but rather bolster our defenses at home against our only natural enemy.

Edited on Thu Jun-03-04 12:36 AM by AngryAmish
I just seem to remember it. I could be completely wrong. The reason I do remember it is though Alaska should be Canadian, but somehow the Tsar was ticked at Canada. It could be part of the Great Game thing though.

26. Yukon has gold potatoes
that is enough for 'em.

BTW, the perfect way to make garlic mashed potatoes is as follows:

3/4 (of whole)Yukon gold -adjust for number of people attending
1/4 red potatoes.

5 cloves garlic (again adjust up and down for serving size, but make sure they get soft in boiling process, it takes the edge off)
white and black pepper to taste
As much butter as you can stand
Whole milk.

Cut Yukon's into roughly the same size as reds and boil w/ cloves of garlic. Drain. Quick run Yukon's under cold water. Peel Yukon's. They get hot so be careful.

Put Yukon's, reds (with skins on), garlic, tons of butter and splash of milk in bowl. Mash, but leave it lumpy. Pepper to taste. Serve. Extra points if you have ceramic bowls and can leave under broiler for extra crust.

28. I''l tell you something about gold spuds
There is a resaurant called "Mr. Mikes" In Canada. And I remember when my Dad took me with him on business trips. Once we were in Castlegar ( I can't BELIVE I rememeber that). I went with my Dad to the Frist MR. Mikes I'd ever been to.

On MR. Mike's ads theyb always showed spuds in a gold wrapper. I always assumed (Being a kid) They were gold potatoes. So, I ordered the first thing that on the menue that showed said spud.... I was disapointed..it was my first lesson "IN the difference between myth and reality"

18. Harper wanted us to join the Iraq war for money.
He wanted us to participate in an illegal invasion of a country that never did us or our allies any harm FOR CASH.

"This government will get zip from the U.S. administration, absolutely nothing, whether it lasts two years or six years," he said.

"What is going to happen when Washington decides to spend another 30 seconds on each truck crossing the border? It will bring our economy to its knees. What is Ottawa going to do when Congress gets the okay to start kicking Canada on every trade issue?

"When little countries spit at big countries they have trouble and we have just bought ourselves a lot of trouble."

So that was his justification for joining the war. Not that Iraq presented a danger to us or our allies or anything like that, but we might lose a lot of money if we didn't. He's nothing but a cheap whore! No he's much worse than a whore. Whores don't kill for money.

I liked Chretien's reponse to Ambassador Cellucci when he demanded Canada but more weapons. Chetien said something like "well, ya, sure it's be nice to spend more on defense, but I'd rather spend the money on better hospitals and schools and roads."

Good answer Mr Chetien.

24. The man's straight out of Free Republic.
I feel like I'm listening to a Freeper every time I read something he said.

He accused the Liberals of supporting Saddam. He called the Defense Minister a jackass in the House of Commons.

And the thing is, it turned out he was wrong. Canadian business wasn't hurt a bit by not going to war. It's not like America buys from us because they are doing us a favour. They buy from us because we supply certain products they want at the price they want. Harper's a fool. All right-wingers are fools. But you already knew that.
