We are " a nation of laws" after all, right?
On top of all the investigations that are (or should be) on going in the last few days we have seen one major probe resurface and a brand spanking new one emerge. That potentially damning and dirty little CIA operative leak investigation popped back up and there are suddenly serious questions about whether someone in this administration aided and abetted our "enemy". As is often said,"It's not the act that gets you it's the cover-up" but the problem W&Co. face is that they don't seem to be very good at cover-ups (one pinprick and the balloon is no more) and only seemed focused on appearance. The image thing is the main goal both before and after they act. So now they are going to have to put in some hours longer than 8-5 and that is only for clean up not actual governing, not that they were getting a lot done on that front to start with.
The odd part is that those now being investigated are the ones who set the precedent and the actions in question did not occur 10 years before taking office (though there is plenty there as well) but actions while IN office. They sure were busy trying to turn back the clock to a time when they had any idea what they were talking about.
Added to this is that all of the investigations, save for the 9/11 commission and the WMD commission-which has yet to meet, are being run out of the Dept. of Justice. The conflict of interest inherent in the DoJ investigating their political friends and those who appointed them is unmistakable but aside from that the workload itself will be daunting. The DoJ has its hands full as it is with the war on terror.
It is obviously time for a independent counsel or special prosecutor to be appointed, again the precedent for both has already been established-this time from the actions and investigations of past Republican administrations.
If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to worry about and we are "a nation of laws", right?
