It is nearly impossible to sort out the fog surrounding a spy chief in a situation like this.
But, hey, why not take a stab since no one in the media has the slightest inkling to even try?
Plame, Chalabi, the CIA obvious revolt, the lack of production of anything to help Bushco...Tenet has lost any ability to manage things to make Bush look good, even as a fall guy or soothing loyal administrator.
Has he been playing too many sides or just shuffling around the edges? I'd say the latter, a dutiful smokescreen behind the wounded Destroyer, HMS W. Bush, while depth charges are fired willy nilly against informers, critics, whatever.
The agency is clearly split- an easy thing to do with these elements: compartmentalization, the deliberate branching off of pro-Bush secret elements past and present. Their opposition is doing the same with outside retirees(some of them recent just for that purpose) and active employees. Unlike past years when the CIA or discreet elements could turn against an administration, this one has turned into a bizarre public civil war with no discreet entity leading the attack. That we know of. And just as unusual the motives are more high road patriotic values than we are accustomed to in this kind of action.
The Bush CIA or the neutralized CIA keeping its place has disintegrated as Bush awakes to find at least two very impeachable offenses laid on his doorstep like a fish head wrapped in a newspaper, both related to the CIA doing its job separate from the wishes of Bushco.
You are seeing here desperate times when the head of the CIA resigns in the midst of possibly imminent terror attacks, before any of his primary missions are finished. This disintegration- and this is for you, oh backers of Bush and the Agenda- is solely attributable to the laughable, doomed leadership model of the incompetent, untrustworthy, person at the top.
Canaris was Hitler's spy chief who was making deals with the Soviets when Hitler had him executed. ironically, a lot of Hitler's cabinet were trying to make similar secret deals behind his back.
