The wheels have completely fallen off of Smirky's election wagon by now. Would something like this make a substantial difference in the election?

2. I personally don't think so
Reagan hasn't been on the stage since leaving office. That's a good 15 years or so? I don't think he'd have much of an effect. Although it would be interesting to see how the ceremony was handled. There's that great picture of Clinton, Bush 41, Reagan, and Carter attending Nixon's funeral. How would that work in this case?

3. No, no difference
I don't think the death of one President really affects the political health of another (unless they're related).

The Rayguns HATE the Bush family, especially Shrub's stance on stem cell research.

4. Reagan Jr is no friend of Bush
and I think he'd lay the smack down if bush tried to capitalize on his father's death.

Reagan kicking off would only:

1) remind the moderates of the GOP how much Bush is not Reagan thereby increasing their notion to either vote Kerry or stay home and

2) remind everyone that the Reagans and Bush's never got along. Note that you NEVER heard "the president" invoking Reagan's name anywhere at any time in the last 3.5 years. The GOP moderates will take note, again and act appropriately.

7. No. It would be an end to the Bushistas.

There is a deep divide among conservative Republicans -- that is, traditional conservatives, like Reagan, George Will, Pat Buchanon, etc, and the radicals, like Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rummy, etc.

The Bush family were always arrogant and treated Reagan and Mrs Reagan with contempt. Worst of all, they took advantage of his illness and ran embarassing covert operations out under the cover of Reagan's adminstration. The "shadow government" then is now running the country out in the open in the Bush adminstration.

The Bushistas have been largely successful in replacing the beloved and revered Gipper by His Chimperial Highness as National Icon. The Reaganites are deeply offended by this.

When/if Bush tried to exploit Reagan's death for his own political purposes, Mrs Reagan will go nuclear, and all the might of the Reaganites will surround her and come to her aid. Anyone who has had a grievance against them will come forth.

Mark my words: it will be the (traditional) Republicans who bring Bush down, NOT Democrats.

8. Nacny Reagan publicly criticizes Bush on Stem Cells all the time
If Reagan died she would just get louder on the issue and Bush would have to come to a decision on it that would impact his anti-choice base.
