Why make the resignation statement now ??
Almost six weeks before you are going to leave? But just before Bush is going abroad to talk with the French and Italians? Surely when Bush lands in Europe, that will be the topic of conversation everywhere. No one will be talking about Tenet. Is that why the announcement was made today? That is so cynical, on my part, to even think that they "think" like that...

1. It's not cynical, it's reality
That's how the game is played on BOTH sides. Hell, that was one of the first lessons taught in college. Bad news should happen near the end of the business day on Friday, because no one reads Saturday morning newspapers. All good news should occur ideally on Saturday, just in time for Sunday's newspapers, which nearly everyone reads, or early in the work week, when people are paying attention.

3. Is there any time that Tenet could have resigned . . .
Edited on Thu Jun-03-04 01:20 PM by Tina H
over the past year or so where you would have *not* questioned the time. I mean some important business of state is always coming up -- that is true on any given day.

I mean, the resignation of an CIA Director should generally raise questions and concerns, and Tenet's resignation especially does.

However, I don't see anything particularly sinister in the *timing* of the resignation.

On edit: thanks to reply alerting me to my mistaking the FBI with the CIA. Now corrected.

5. That's the thing Tina
this administration has made us so gun-shy that we question EVERYTHING NOW.When Bush sneezes we wonder if he's snorting coke again-I mean these guys have unraveled years of damage and mistrust that took a generation to get over(Nixon era). These guys holy shit they make Nixon look like a double A team.

8. Yeah, I remember 2003 . . .
it was quite discouraging. I am enjoying 2004 a lot more. This is the America I remember. Asking questions again. Much better now.

Just best not to go overboard, though. If paranoia is practiced, then cred tends to suffer a hit.

4. Because Bush was fingered yesterday in Plame affair?
Tenet's loyalty to Agency trumps loyalty to traitor/President/boss Bush?

Tenet speaking on CNN now...in case anyone cared.
It's a chance to hear him further explain those "personal reasons"

6. Same reason they tried to scare everyone the day Gore made his speech?
They save these little announcements for rainy days. I'm sure they have a few more-- O'Conner's retirement, Rice's firing, etc.
