First Tennant, then Cheney - Bush Administration election strategy
Before Tennant resigned today, I have been getting the feeling that Cheney will be resigning before the repug convention. Oh wait, the convention is being held in New York, the perfect location for "America's Mayor" to step in as the new VP candidate, thus revitalizing the campaign. The message coming from the white house about the leaked email concerning cheney and halliburton is that everyone is taking very careful steps to say, "Not to the best of MY knowledge", and easy way of saying that Cheney did do this, but that I don't want to be viewed as covering up for him when the time comes.

For once, even though I am possibly giving this administration too much credit, to drop both Cheney and Tennent is genius strategy. This way all that is negative about the war (in the public's eye) will then be accounted for by resignations - thus leaving * left reaping the rewards, only to pick new people to head the CIA and be the VP who could be even worse than the two there before (spare us now!). Bush will be considered to have accounted for all the downfalls of his policy without having to face any consequences himself - brilliant for him and the neo-cons behind it.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid - lets hope so...

1. Giuliani is a dead horse
He'd never get named VP. He's pro-abortion, pro-immigration, pro-gay-rights, etc

7. No way will it be Guiliani. I'm thinking Tom Ridge.
Guiliani is loaded with baggage, as sangh0 pointed out... and let's not forget about that little "family values" problem he has. I don't think Bush would choose Guiliani, because he doesn't need to alienate himself further from his base... and I don't think the "bounce" after announcing would be a good one. The media will immediately begin to talk not of Guiliani on 9/11, but of Rudy and Judy, trying to shack up at Gracie Mansion.

I have a feeling the veep candidate will be Tom Ridge. Although he's pro-choice (or used to, didn't he?), I think Bush's base will love him, and since he's the least contentious figure in the Administration, the middle, independent, undecided voters might love him too.

I definitely, definitely think Cheney will bow out... for "health reasons." I see it happening during the Dem Convention.

4. "genius strategy"?

I don't know whether your predictions will come to pass, but, if they do, I don't think it would be "genius strategy" any more than calling a Hail Mary pass play late in the 4th quarter is a "genius strategy." Desperation might be a better word.

6. It would be easy... Cheney (the martyr)
would clutch his chest, stagger a bit, and be whisked off to the hospital.. a few hours later, his doctor holds a press conference and says that he's "out of danger", but the stress of helping to keep america safe for 3 1/2 years is just too much for him, and he needs to "retire".. Lynn will boo-hoo about how bravely her dear Dickie has stood up for the american people, but now his family needs him..

The freeps will send flowers by the semi-full and hold vigils by the hospital, where after a few days, the big dick, himself will emerge, pastyfaced (as always).. He will thank the people for their support and love for 3+ years, but since his health is an issue, he must step aside...for the good of the country..

that's how it play out..

9. I'm not sure what kind of strategy it would be to................
have your administration fall apart right before the elections. It doesn't really build up confidence, does it? Of course this is the shrub administration and we have already learned that they don't have any idea what they are doing.
