MSNBC: "the economy is enjoying a robust, sustainable expansion"
Strong jobs data could trigger Fed move
Analysts expect third straight month of big employment gains

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5130445/

The nation’s employers are expected to turn in a third straight month of strong job growth Friday, clearing the way for the Federal Reserve to begin raising short-term interest rates, possibly within a few weeks.

Analysts expect the Labor Department to report the economy added about 223,000 jobs last month, bringing the total to more than 1 million for the year to date. If the figures come in as expected, the report will serve as confirmation that after a long jobless recovery, the economy is enjoying a robust, sustainable expansion that is producing enough new jobs to begin to bringing down the unemployment rate, analysts say.

“I think the last piece of the puzzle has fallen in place and the economy is firing on all cylinders," said Sung Won Sohn, chief economist at Wells Fargo. "It's especially encouraging that manufacturing has come back."

If the employment figure falls short, however, it would be a troubling development that would provide fresh campaign fodder to Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry, who has shifted focus in recent weeks from the economy to Iraq and the war on terror, areas where President Bush suddenly seems more vulnerable.

2. good
we needed more fast-food jobs. They generate tremendous tax revenue that we can use on the other side of the world.

3. Yes, they really are...
and they will continue to prosper until just after our current resident POS is elected (no re-, sorry). Then the brown stuff and the fan blades will have a major interaction and the unemployment rate will triple, the market will crash and the 'little people' will get royally screwed yet again!

22. It's not real. Open your eyes and look around you. How many layoffs are
occurring? This doesn't happen in a robust economy. It's BS. How much do YOU need to swallow to wise up?

19. All of them are basically permanent,
but not necesarily full time.

The number reported in about a half hour will be of jobs that are expected to last 12 months or more.

11. "more than 1 million for the year to date"...
...versus how many NEW "layoff threads" that appeared on DU today alone?

They seem to leave out the part about how a gain walloped by massive losses can still be classified as "a robust, sustainable expansion" and an "economy...firing on all cylinders."

Though we never really experienced job loss during 2000, 2001, and 2002; growth stopped.

18. If You Got The $$$, Times Are Very, Very Good
I should pass along some of the email I get from brokerage houses and banks about investment opportunities and other schemes that are making the rich even richer.

Combine a stock market that has no basis on economic reality and can be swung and manipulated to generate windfall profits (while the market's flat now, over the past 18 months the market almost clipped along at Clinton 90's numbers)...high oil prices are creating quick hits on a ton of commodity markets and if one wants, there's always defense and defense-related companies that can't provide services fast enough to the Pentagon. Yep...times are real good if you want to be "aggressive".

The fat cats don't care if there are those who've lost jobs or seen their jobs outsourced or consolidated...hell, this is capitalism...either you're as good as them and rich or you wanna be like them. Thus when they say things are good, even if you don't have a job or face tough times, that's your fault, not theirs. Get with the program. It's kinda like listening to Benny Hinn.
