Rumsfeld limits Senate's access to Boeing papers

Published June 4, 2004

Can rummy leagally do this.....does't congress have the right and duty to see where and what takes place with our monies and contracts????

WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has sharply limited the information he is willing to let Congress see on a controversial defense contract that is the focus of multiple investigations.

Rumsfeld took a hard line even with fellow Republicans who want information from him about a proposed $23-billion deal for the Air Force to buy and lease 100 Boeing 767 aerial refueling tankers, some of which would go to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. Rumsfeld's actions could provoke a rare congressional subpoena.

Senators, led by John McCain, R-Ariz., have been demanding that the Air Force hand over communications on negotiations with Boeing and efforts to slide the deal through Congress. Critics contend that the deal was laden with conflicts of interest and that the planes may not be needed.

1. Drip drip drip
Is this a contest to see how many investigations an administration can rack up in a four year span?

4. they were appointed by the court - sound like above the law to me
they know their mandate isn't from the people, it's from the supreme court! And that pretty much means they can dictate law. Who's going to stop them, the court?

5. Lack of Accountability
What galls me more than anything else is this (mis)administration's pervasive, persistent and continuing mentality that it does not have to submit to Congressional oversight and accountability. Man, can you even begin to imagine a Democratic administration operating under this same misperception. HELL NO!

What did ol' King Georgie the Dull say about a dictatorship ... "there's nothing wrong with a dictatorship so long as I'm the dictator." Well, it seems to me that that's where we're a'headin'.

6. OK, here is how all that duct tape really can help National Security:
Use it to hog tie and gag all the neocon SOBs who wipe there feet on the Constitution and claim they can do it 'for national security'.
THAT would make America a safer place!

7. Gee, what if Congress decided to cut off the funding?
Bwahahahaha! Yeah, I know, hilarious.

I mean, Congress? Exercise its constitutional prerogative? To the detriment of the gang of thieves in the White House? It is to laugh.

8. 100% pork
That deal was a disgrace. It would have been cheaper to
buy the tankers than lease them.

I thought they finally managed to cancel this taxpayer stick-up.

10. McCain said DonRum's response would 'eviscerate' Congress oversight
~snip~

McCain said Rumsfeld's response would "eviscerate the responsibility of Congress to provide oversight in such matters."

~snip~

Use the Force, John ...

that statement needs following up on ...

... hopefully, McCain will "eviscerate" Rumsfeld and The White House in turn ... (not holding my breath)

words are nice, but the Constitution and this country are being disemboweled

Now, is the time for all good people to come to the aid of their Country (not Party) ...
